Southeastern Guide Dogs seeks a self-directed Certified Service Dog Trainer.


The program trains and places exceptional dogs into careers benefiting veterans with disabilities. Gaining confidence from these dogs, veterans expand their lives, regain mobility and independence and re-integrate into their communities.


This is an exciting position for an energetic individual who is eager and available to travel 50% of the time. This person will train our Service Dogs and work directly with our Veterans during the application and screening process, the residential training classes, and the post-graduation, in-home support. At times, this Trainer will come into contact with highly sensitive situations and will be expected to comfortably and tactfully help alleviate any stressful factors contributing to such situation.


We are currently seeking individuals who already hold a Certification in Service Dog Training or have significant experience as a dog trainer. This is not an advertisement for our Apprenticeship program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Feed and exercise animals and provide other general care such as grooming daily
  • Transport dogs daily to routes or events
  • Provide demos on and off campus to educate members of the public on the Service Dog process
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness to safely perform their range of duties
  • Provide customer service to members of the public and visitors to Southeastern Guide Dogs
  • Observe animals’ physical conditions in order to detect illness or unhealthy conditions requiring medical care
  • Conduct training routes and administer training program in order to develop and maintain desired Service Dog behaviors
  • Conduct pre-admission home visits as needed (travel within state and out)
  • Administer prescribed medications to animals
  • Keep records documenting animal health, diet and behavior
  • Assist with Admissions as needed for class, home interviews, and follow ups. 
  • Assist with training sessions
  • Record activities and outcomes in appropriate database
  • Other duties as assigned




To be considered, a candidate should possess:

  • REQUIRED: 2+ years relevant dog training experience
  • PREFERRED: A certification as a Dog Trainer (C.P.D.T. or A.D.I. preferred)..which must be indicated within the resume
  • Preferred: Formal training in the field of Psychology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including travel when necessary.
