Over a million students played our math games this year. ST Math is already the most innovative and effective educational experiences on the market, but we’re not satisfied.  We’re exploring ambitious enhancements to our student experience, educator experience, and parent experience.  We need an awesome user experience researcher on our team to make it happen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design , coordinate, and conduct user research, including user interviews, focus groups, surveys, card sorts, and concept/prototype testing, both in person and remote. 

  • Persona creation and maintenance.

  • Carry out research based on analytics, server logs, and screen recordings, including difficulty analysis.

  • Perform competitive analysis and heuristic evaluations.

  • Provide summarized research results directly to the innovation teams for discussion and future implementation.

  • Provide design suggestions based on observation, research, and expertise.

  • Partner with Designers, Product Managers, Marketing and other team members to develop and  prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. 

  • Analyze online experiments (A/B testing).

  • Build and maintain an internal and external network of user testers including ESM’s, students, teachers, school administrators, etc.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 2 years of work experience in a usability, user research testing, or applied research setting.

  • Familiarity with game play mechanics, including incentives and social pressures

  • Excellent interpersonal communication (both written and verbal)

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills

  • Proven ability to translate research findings into actionable product improvements

  • Passion for user centered design testing in video games and educational applications

  • Ability to distill key design questions into efficient methods to validly test concepts.

  • Must be able and willing to travel, including driving to surrounding areas, and in some cases flying to schools to conduct research. 

  • Experience with remote usability testing tools, such as UserZoom.

  • Strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.


Even better if you have:

  • 4 years of relevant work experience, including experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices.

  • Knowledge and experience with user research testing for software accessibility.

  • Extensive knowledge of data analytics tools such as Tableau Software, Google Analytics, Excel PowerPivot or similar.

  • Excellent working knowledge of statistics and the principles of experiment design.

  • Experience as a formal educator.

This position reports to the Vice President of Product. This is a fully remote role, and can be anywhere in the United States, as long as you don't mind turning on your webcam to build a rapport, even from a distance. This role will require occasional travel, up to 25% of the time (when safe to do so).
