Position Summary: Senior Automotive Technician

 

The Senior Automotive Technician works as a full-time technician while assuming additional responsibilities. Diagnose, adjust, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on all Pink Jeep vehicles including Jeeps, Trekkers, Shuttle Vans, and trucks. Position requires repairing virtually any system or component on the vehicle including the transmission system. Technicians also assist in the day-to-day operations and may interface with tour customers, Guide staff and the public in assisting with rescue operations and repairs of the vehicle.

  • This position requires making decisions that affect other people, the financial resources, and/or the image and reputation of the company.  Mistakes may not be easily correctable and can have serious consequences 

  • Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and background screen and DOT physical

  • Work schedule is 1:30pm to 10:00pm and may include one or both weekend days

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze daily workload and adjust staffing levels accordingly

  • Assign work for the team and prioritize work orders 

  • Collective Data: Data entry, inventory control

  • Collective Data: ongoing training to maintain knowledge of all uses of program

  • Communicates with supervisors, peers, and other company employees on a variety of issues in a positive and professional manner 

  • Confer with Guides to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems, and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements

  • Test drive vehicles and test components and systems, using equipment such as specialized testers, computerized diagnostic devices, or specialized tools

  • Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions

  • Follow check lists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas 

  • Plan work procedures, using charts, technical manuals, and experience. 

  • Review and complete work orders in a thorough, detailed, and legible manner; discuss with Manager as needed

  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups

  • Diagnose and repair brake system, replace wear items, machine brake drums and rotors

  • Performs tire repairs, mount and balance tires as needed

  • Repair and service air conditioning, heating, engine-cooling, and electrical systems

  • Tear down, repair, and rebuild faulty assemblies such as power systems, steering systems, and linkages

  • Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges

  • Repair or replace parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings

  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems such as ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels

  • Repair manual and automatic transmissions & transfer cases including electronic controlled units

  • Install and repair accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers

  • Must be able to operate vehicles including test driving in traffic and on off road trails

  • Maintain cleanliness of work area

  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

  • Ability to read and use diagnostic trouble shooting charts 

  • Basic Math skills, metric conversion, use of calculator

  • Basic computer/PC skills to perform data entry and research

  • English language comprehension and speaking

  • Legible writing

  • Self-starter who demonstrates initiative

  • Work well in a team environment

  • Good customer service and communication skills

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities

  • Able to prioritize workload

  • Trouble shooting and problem-solving skills

  • Effectively communicates and shares knowledge with co-workers

 

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • High School or GED

  • Valid driver license with acceptable MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) over past 3 years

  • Minimum 5 years bumper-to-bumper experience in an independent shop or dealership

  • ASE certification(s) desired

  • Welding/fabrication experience a plus

  • Able to operate vehicles including test driving in traffic and on off road trails

  • Experience and ability driving a manual transmission vehicle

  • Able to adhere to dress code and grooming requirements

  • Prompt and regular attendance

 

Continued Education/Training Requirements 

  • Attend trainings as requested by Fleet Manager

  • Maintain ASE certification(s) as required

 

Essential Physical Requirements 

  • Primarily a shop environment with some exposure to weather conditions

  • Occasionally requires working outdoors in temperatures from 20 degrees to 110 degrees

  • Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people

  • Regular walking throughout service center facilities throughout the day 

  • Requires repetitive movement, bending or twisting, standing, getting into awkward positions up to 8 hours per day and occasionally working in cramped workspaces

  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls

  • Requires face-to-face and telephone discussions with individuals or teams 

  • Includes exposure to a variety of chemicals or contaminants

  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable

  • Requires exposure to hazardous equipment 

  • Potential exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings 

  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment, and uniforms 

  • Requires working in a closed vehicle or equipment

  • Requires lifting or carrying up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis, and occasionally with assistance up to 100 lbs.

  • Requires clear vision and adequate hearing
