Open rank, full-time, tenured or tenure-track appointment, beginning July 1, 2020

 

Virginia Theological Seminary invites applications for a full-time tenure or tenure-track faculty position in Church Music, with responsibility to teach and to oversee the music program in Immanuel Chapel. The person appointed would begin work in the summer of 2020.

 

The Professor of Church Music will teach the required and elective courses in Church Music in the M.Div. and MA degree programs. She/he will also lead VTS in determining whether we should design a program in music leadership at the Doctoral level. In addition, the Professor of Church Music will also conduct the Seminary Choir and work with the Associate Dean of the Chapel to support daily worship, worship planning, and special musical events. Finally, the Professor of Church Music will work with the Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning to support the work of Music, Liturgy, and the Arts in VTS’s Continuing Education programming. 

 

As a member of the faculty, the successful applicant would also participate in the residential educational program at VTS, including participating in daily worship and advising students.

 

Qualifications
  • A commitment to Christ and God’s mission in the world, and to theological education and formation.
  • A Doctoral degree in music preferred.
  • First-hand experience in teaching church music at the Masters level to beginning and experienced students.
  • First-hand experience in supporting music in Anglican worship that represents the global breadth of the tradition.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following fields of study: choral conducting, liturgical leadership, musical performance and/or composition.
  • Openness to teaching in online and face-to-face contexts.
