The Food Scientist position within the R&D department at Health-Ade Kombucha will play a key role in industry leading R&D in fermented beverages. A vital part of the role also involves collaboration with team members. The position offers a broad scope to contribute and learn in a fast-paced and growing company. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors’ in Food Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related fields with at least 2 years’ industry experience. Beverage and/or juice experience a plus. A solid technical skillset in at least one of the following areas is vital: fermentation, food science, instrumental analyses, formulation, biochemistry, and microbiology. Non-technical, but vital skills needed to be successful in this position are: Organizing ability, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and effectiveness in communication.
The essential job duties include:
- Report to the Director of R&D
- Bench-top formulation of new products and test samples on fermentation samples
- Instrumental methods of analysis and sensory testing
- New product development and product improvement activities
- Trouble shoot production and quality issues
- Maintain the in-house testing equipment through periodic maintenance and calibrations.
- Qualify ingredients and vendors for regulatory compliance
- Run stability testing on current and new products
- Support the sensory testing and new flavor development program
- Perform statistical methods of analyses on data and report the findings
- Organize data and present experimental results periodically
- Assist in developing SOPs and technology transfer documents to production and QC
- Inventory management of laboratory supplies, samples, and R&D ingredients
- Ship and receive samples from and to 3rd party, update direct report with status changes
- Medium physical work, lifting to 25 lbs. occasionally
- Adhere to all site safety regulations and rules
