Position Overview

This is a Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) position which will perform research assistance, circulation procedures, printing and computer assistance and other customer service related duties. Typical duties may include searching databases, processing book requests, performing interlibrary loan procedures, checking items in/ out items, helping patrons with printing and other assistance.

College/Department Overview

The Information Desk at the Max Chambers Library provides customer service to students, faculty, staff and the public who request assistance. We provide research, circulation, printing, computer and other assistance.

 

Department Specific Job Functions

  • Assist patrons searching for library materials through the on-line catalog, databases, research guides and ALMA software
  • Assist patrons through library chat, transferring them to or scheduling appointments with librarians when appropriate
  • Check library materials in and out to patrons, including books, laptops, interlibrary loans, reserves etc.
  • Process and retrieve requests from all collections
  • Assist patrons with printing, scanning, computers and audio/visual workstations
  • Assist with shelving materials using the Library of Congress Classification System
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates.  International students shall be enrolled full time to be eligible to work as a student worker. Full time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position. 

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. FWSP Requirements

In order to be considered for the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP), you must be approved for work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, and you must accept your FWSP award in UConnect. Contact the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships for assistance.

Please be aware, Summer FWSP is not included in the award for Fall/Spring FWSP. Summer FWSP is an individual application process.

Enrollment requirements for FWSP employment are the same each semester. Undergraduate FWSP students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours, and Graduate FWSP students must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 credit hours.  If a student is enrolled in their final semester and the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of remaining credit hours needed to graduate and the anticipated graduation date) and submit the letter to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Preferred

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Have sensitivity of intercultural communication, and good interpersonal skills
  • Friendly and helpful customer service skills, good computer skills and familiarity with library resources
