JOB SUMMARY
New Roads School provides an inspired college preparatory program from which an authentically diverse student population, mirroring the rich diversity of Los Angeles, develops a personal dedication to learning, a respect for independent thinking, an expanding curiosity about the world and its people, and a commitment to the common good. We are a co-educational, non-denominational K-12 school of approximately 550 students. We pride ourselves on our small class sizes, passionate educators, and dedication to relational, embodied learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach Upper School Spanish (Grades 9-12)
- Teach reading comprehension skills and building verbal vocabulary and Spanish verbal skills.
- Implement appropriate, authentic assessments in support of individual student learning styles
- Effective, proactive and timely communication with varied school constituencies, including administration, students, and parents on students progress
- Communicate respectfully and thoughtfully with parent/ guardians remaining sensitive to different families’ cultures, values and needs.
- Make Spanish meaningful and relevant by inspiring students
- Plan curriculum in conjunction with other members of the Foreign Language Department
- Perform additional duties, as needed and assigned
- Consistently communicate high expectations and boundaries in a kind, clear and respectful manner.
- Maintain a climate of trust and mutual respect, which encourages students to risk asking questions, expressing their opinions, and making mistakes necessary to the learning process.
- Show a commitment to supporting the holistic development of the student, both inside and outside of the class.
