The Umen laboratory is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to work as part of a small team on a three-year DOE funded project investigating function of genes encoding conserved unannotated proteins in the model green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, with some follow up work to be done using the model plants Arabidopsis thaliana and Setaria viridis. Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and have experience in one or more of the following areas: high throughput genomics and phenotyping, bioinformatics, vector design and assembly, genome editing, Chlamydomonas molecular genetics, plant cell biology and fluorescence microscopy. Successful candidates will be self-motivated and highly organized with excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

  •  A PhD in Biological Sciences, Engineering/Computer Science or other relevant discipline
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:  bioinformatics, molecular genetics and/or genomics, microbiology, plant biology, algal biology, high throughput phenotyping
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Independence and project leadership skills
