Description

A Substitute Teacher is responsible is to teach or be present in the classroom when faculty members are absent.  A Substitute Teacher of Sage Hill School is devoted to teaching and learning.  At all times, a Substitute Teacher will maintain Sage Hill School’s standards of excellence and professionalism and promote the School’s mission. Substitute Teachers will also be asked to serve as Proctors for testing. In most cases, a substitute teacher will work a minimum of four (4) hours a day when reporting for an assignment, which may be include duties out of the classroom as assigned by the Dean of Faculty and Curriculum.

 

Primary responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Respond to evening or early morning communication for substitute requests 
  • Substitute the designated number of sections as defined by the assignment
  • Follow class instructions as provided by the absent faculty member
  • Follow attendance guidelines established by the School
  • Check-in with the Academic Program Assistant to confirm assignment
  • Responsible for recording hours worked in the School’s payroll system and follow all meal and break policies as stated in the Employee Handbook
  • Serve as Proctors for testing which include but are not limited to: AP, PAST, Act, etc.
  • In addition to the Employee handbook, read and follow the guidelines of the Academic Program Handbook
  • Assume all other duties as assigned by the Dean of Faculty and Curriculum

Supervisory responsibilities: Supervise student community

 

Qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in appropriate field, M.A. or M.S. preferred
  • Experience in independent school environment preferred
  • Excellent collegiality, professionalism and organizational ability
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well with teenagers and their parents
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, use sound judgment, and work independently
