Description

POSITION OVERVIEW


Purpose is to perform maintenance, diagnosis, inspections and repairs on cars, trucks, and off-road equipment in a safe, efficient, quality minded and customer focused manner. Participates in special projects (non-transportation related) campus wide as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Status:  Hourly, non-exempt, full-time, regular, 12-month

Hours of Work:  Standard work week.  Evening and weekend work may be required.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Ensures the school’s fleet vehicles and equipment complies with all local and state rules and regulations by conducting routine maintenance and inspections.
  • Complies with all safety practices, procedures and rules.
  • Performs repair work on vehicles such as breakdowns, malfunctions and emergency roadside repair in a safe, efficient, and quality manner.
  • Performs operation test prior to repairs to verify complaint. 
  • Diagnose the cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturers specifications including engines, transmissions and clutches, suspension and steering and tires, fuel and ignition (gas and diesel), electrical systems, brakes, and HVAC systems. 
  • Follows flowchart procedures including documenting correct mileage/hours and document all repairs in the work order system using complaint, cause, and correction format.
  • Follows parts ordering/billing procedures.
  • Performs final operational test on all vehicles to quality-check all repairs. 
  • Exhibits a capacity for growth and learning, to be trained on the work order system.  
  • Follows and maintains preventive maintenance systems and schedules. 
  • Performs required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment to maximize the safety, productivity, and the life of the equipment.
  • Supports transportation scheduling for academic and athletic events and/or programs, using both in-house and outside vendors.
  • Maintains work area in a clean, organized and safe manner. 
  • Emergency response as needed.
  • Special projects might involve: pressure washing, pine straw, heavy machinery operations, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


  • Hold a or can obtain a GTEC Underground Storage Tank Operator B License 
  • 1-5 years experience in the automotive industry
  • ASE certifications recommended but not required 
  • Has working knowledge of fuel systems software, such as Fuel Master.
  • Effective use of interpersonal and communication skills including tact and diplomacy
  • Solid foundation and comfort with use of software and databases
  • Effective organizational and planning skills
  • Must have a valid Georgia Driver’s license 


 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.  The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.


 

TRAVEL


Minimal travel is expected and is limited to local areas.  Occasional out of state travel may be expected.
