The Maintenance Technician supports the Property Management team in ensuring the quality and safety of residential and commercial units managed by Chesapeake Neighbors. The Maintenance Technician performs a variety of routine maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc. The Maintenance Technician will install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain facilities and equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems.

This position operates in various locations in Anne Arundel County and the Eastern Shore. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud depending on tasks. Driving is a necessary component of the position. This position will get a take home vehicle.

The pay rate for this position is $20.00 per hr. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm, with occasional night and weekends. This position must respond to maintenance emergencies on off hours, rotating on-call responsibilities.


Position Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Inspect assigned units to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repairs.
  • Perform minor electrical maintenance including but not limited to replacement or repair of fixtures, (i.e.: all switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
  • Perform minor plumbing maintenance (i.e.: replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, etc.).
  • Perform painting and light carpentry work; assist with small construction projects when required. 
  • Complete assigned workorders; Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs.
  • Support the Landscape Division with ground maintenance tasks (mowing, edging, etc.) as required. 
  • Perform duties in compliance with all safety rules, regulations, or procedures given.

Other Functions

  • Support coordination with contractors for services (i.e.: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.).
  • Assist with snow removal and snow emergency operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Education & Experience Requirements

  • Four years experience working in facility maintenance and/or property management
  • HS diploma or GED required; Certification in plumbing, HVAC, or other facility-related trade a plus
  • Must have valid Maryland Drivers License with no more than 2 points and a satisfactory driving record
  • Must live within 15 miles of one of The Arcs Anne Arundel County offices
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing and carpentry required
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
  • Must be customer service oriented
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to use technology such as a computer and smartphone
  • Ability to work well and adapt under pressure in an ever-changing environment
