GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop deep background in the programmatic mission of the World Food Programme and WFP USA and monitor industry-specific information 

• Create world-class, competitive funding proposals to be used by the entire development team
• Draft and oversee the production of uniquely tailored written materials for donors, prospects, and connectors, including concept papers, proposals, thank you letters, stewardship repots and other creative updates
• Ensure communications are of the highest quality and aligned with fundraising strategy and key messages to advance engagement with donors, prospects, and connectors
• Work hand-in-hand with senior fundraisers to share stewardship plans and execute activities for WFP USA’s donors
• Works closely with Manager of Prospect Research to ensure materials align with prospective donor interests
• Create and maintain database of proposals for reference

Proposal Development

• Conceive and propose ideas for securing large, multi-year gifts
• Work with U.N. World Food Programme to identify fundable programmatic opportunities to be utilized by corporate, foundations, and individual giving teams
• Collaborate with internal departments to ensure consistent language and visual content

Reporting and Budget Development

• Work with account managers to manage the fulfillment of donor grant restrictions and reporting preferences
• Work with finance team to prepare financial reports for donors as needed
• Manage the Annual Impact Report: working with the Corporate, Individual and Foundation teams to compile, write, and finalize Development content
• Keep record of all grant reports due during the calendar year

Philanthropy

• Monitor trends in overall grant making and philanthropy
• Distill and provide updates on key industry news and information as well as institutional and prospect news with relevance to fundraising
• Identify RFPs and other emerging opportunities for grants that support our mission
• Keep abreast of best practices in research, data integrity and other hallmarks of a state-of-the art research function and share within Development Operations
• Lead development in creating a repository of commonly requested content for proposal
• Develop and adhere to ethics and confidentiality policies in compliance with industry standards, federal regulations, institutional guidelines and policies

QUALIFICATIONS

Background

• Bachelor’s degree in related field and minimum of 3-5 years of experience in proposal development or similar work for the non-profit sector
• Exceptional writing skills with a keen eye for detail
• Knowledge of the greater philanthropic landscape, including individual, foundations and corporate giving
• Experience with donor databases and management systems
• Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving and writing skills
• Ability to analyze and synthesize large quantities of data and effectively communicate key information to development team
• Willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and skills, and adapt to a growing and changing development environment
