The Grassroots Leadership & Engagement Coordinator collaborates with the Youth and Student Program Manager and the Community Program Manager to build, strengthen and support Amnesty International USA’s Membership Programs. The Youth & Student Program provides young people with the opportunity to engage in human rights education, advocacy and organizing in their communities across the United States, while the Community Program provides opportunities for community members to lead and organize human rights education and activism in their communities across the country. The Grassroots Leadership & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for managing key projects within these two programs, providing support to existing community-based groups, youth and student chapters, and membership networks, developing systems and processes for data management and tracking, developing and implementing communication strategies, and carrying out outreach to target audiences. They are further responsible for the annual registration process of AIUSA student and youth groups and the annual census of community-based local groups, identification of new growth and scaling opportunities, and effective mobilization around days of action and other organizing initiatives.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Implement membership strategies that support retention, engagement, and growth in both Community and Youth & Student Programs 
  • Support the development and maintenance of Human Rights Education, Youth & Student, and Community Programs’ web pages, social media channels, contact lists, electronic communications, and AIUSA’s online events calendar 
  • Coordinate development, procurement, distribution and tracking of materials to AIUSA groups
  • Monitor, assess, and test communication strategies that increase engagement
  • Collect and assess demographic information and other data related to our grassroots participants and apply findings to initiatives to grow a diverse membership
  • Develop and facilitate webinars, trainings and orientations for Community and Youth & Student Programs based on data on member needs and interests
  • Develop and distribute resources and support to Community and Youth & Student Program groups and member networks, and follow up on activities to ensure compliance with AIUSA policies and procedures
  • Track group activity using outcome mapping tools and produce impact reports and infographics
  • Coordinate and execute annual membership renewal initiative and identify opportunities to market and promote membership to potential new members
  • Identify and implement digital methods for growing a sense of community among our AI groups across the country
  • Respond to inquiries from various stakeholders

 

Youth & Student Program Specific Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate annual group registration and ongoing data collection and upkeep for AIUSA student groups
  • Support as needed in implementing AIUSA’s National Week of Student Action and other Youth & Student Program initiatives
  • Manage member communication through the Slack workspace for AIUSA student groups

 

Community Program Specific Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate annual local group census and ongoing data collection and upkeep for AIUSA community program networks
  • Support as needed in implementing AIUSA’s National Banned Books Week and other Community Program sponsored initiatives

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Highly organized and results driven
  • Experience or interest in community organizing and intersectional movement building
  • 3-5 years’ experience with outreach, activism, organizing and/or program coordination; work on human rights or social justice preferred
  • Exercises commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility
  • Experience in working to build intergenerational spaces
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects to success
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement systems or processes for a team
  • Experience working with a database system and/or other data management and digital organizing tools
  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare reports and other materials
  • Strong written communication ability, including experience with email, newsletters, toolkits, and/or promotional materials
  • Demonstrated capacity to get things done independently as well with others 
  • Ability to develop presentations and facilitating workshops and trainings
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or within a membership-based organization
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
  • Experience in WordPress and web design a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and initiate creative solutions.
