MIND Research Institute is the creator of ST Math, a breakthrough approach to learning mathematics using spatial temporal models embedded into interactive puzzles based on the way the brain learns.

The Senior Interactive Designer will play a critical role in the development of our interactive content and lesson platform. You will work collaboratively with educators, interactive learning designers, artists, and engineers to produce our interactive learning experiences. Your primary focus will be on our interactive lesson platform and activities, ensuring a powerful learning experience with seamless flow for our users. You will craft user flows, translate them into hi-fidelity designs, and partner with the engineering team to produce and test them with our educator population.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and produce interactive platform and activity designs that exceed industry usability best practices and enable deeper learning experiences of our users.

  • Ensure our interactive experiences have a cohesive, responsive, and intuitive end-to-end design from first discovery through ramping.

  • Produce highly engaging and functional sketches, wireframes, level ramps, prototypes, and hi-fidelity designs, knowing when to apply pixel-perfect and when to make low-fi sketches and prototypes.

  • Use strong design processes to take projects through stages (e.g. problem definition, usability principles, research, ideation, mock-ups and prototyping). Quickly and logically explore, validate and refine design concepts and game flows.

  • Proactively and clearly communicate your ideas, learnings, & recommendations. Document specifications in a visually clear and consistent manner.

  • Shepherd the design through all stages of production and ensure it stays true to design intent and meets quality standards.

  • Partner with our UX Researcher to perform usability studies and tests with users in the field.

  • Remain organized and work in an efficient manner at all times.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 5-8+ years industry experience shipping high quality solutions across a variety of devices (desktop, tablet, IOS, Android, etc.)

  • A portfolio that demonstrates great design craft and the ability to remain faithful to a projects creative direction regardless of style, technology, platform, etc.

  • Proficiency in your tools of the trade for wireframing, visualization, animation, prototyping.

  • A track record of working in diverse environments and on projects in various stages from ideation to production.

  • Inventive ability to leverage technology as a creative opportunity and can generate lots of ideas and hone them, with little direction.

  • Eagerness and adaptability to learn and design to the ST Math design standards, with the ability to raise the bar on our designs and learning outcomes.

  • Passion for contributing to the world's best interactive learning experiences.

Even better if you have:

  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Animate.

  • Background in education with experience teaching, tutoring, and or designing for the industry.

  • Degree in HCI, Interaction Design, UX Design, or other related fields.

This role can be based in Irvine, CA or anywhere in the United States, as long as you dont mind turning on your webcam to build a rapport. If remote, this will require forging a relationship with your local school for testing purposes. You may also have to take a trip to sunny Southern California 3-4x a year (when it is safe to do so). This position will report to the Senior Director of Product Content.
