The mission of Amnesty International USA’s Individual at Risk Program (IAR) is to free prisoners of conscience, support human rights defenders, and to prevent individuals and communities at risk of human rights violations. This IAR internship will focus on casework, principally through the Case Commitment Initiative. The Case Commitment Initiative (CCI) is when AIUSA Local and Student Groups work and take action on Individuals at Risk cases on a long-term basis. The internship provides experience in: case file management; data collection and analysis; campaign material preparation; development of communication skills; conducting research; managing databases; and learning about many different human rights issues around the global.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the Case Commitment Initiative (CCI) runs smoothly by helping to maintain the CCI chart of cases; helping Local and Student Groups choose a case; collaborating with Country Specialists to produce Case dossiers; ensuring groups have information they need about their case; and collecting and reporting data from groups about their activism.
  • Provides excellent customer support to Amnesty activists, Local and Student Groups, and the general public, including answering questions, providing information, and resolving problems.
  • Assists with the production of materials and other projects as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

•           High school diploma or BA/BS or equivalent experience required.

•           At least 1 year of experience with detailed administrative work, including databases, writing and editing, and customer service.

 

Skills:

•           Strong attention detail.

•           Demonstrated ability and interest in using databases, email systems, Word, and Excel.

•           Strong written and spoken communication skills, including copy-editing.

•           Experience providing excellent customer service.
