Solect is currently seeking an experienced renewable energy attorney to report directly to the General Counsel.   The  candidate will work in our Hopkinton, MA office.  The successful candidate will work closely with various business groups, most notably the Sales and Service Teams and will be directly involved in complex business transactions and in negotiating critical contracts.  The Legal Counsel role is a hands-on, roll up your sleeves position.  This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team in the exciting solar industry and to make a positive contribution to the environment.  Solect is committed to building a culture of excellence through employee development by creating an environment that inspires innovation and teamwork.  This position may be Part-time or Full-time.



Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and weigh multiple inputs and impacts of decisions or course of action on the business, while dealing with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and real estate areas.
  • Support procurement and contracting activities: reviewing, drafting, and negotiating PPAs, Site Control Documents, subcontract arrangements, and Solar Service Agreements.
  • Establish and monitoring preferred legal terms and precedents for contracting activity.
  • Identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks.
  • Deal with external parties (customers, investors, external counsel, etc)
  • Advise the General Counsel on contract status, legal risks and business terms of various deals.

The position requires:

  • Overall broad legal knowledge in the field of real estate or construction law, or contracting mechanisms for renewable energy projects
  • Demonstrated ability to provide business-oriented legal advice;
  • Excellent business judgment and appropriate decision-making ability;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughness;
  • Proven ability to “roll up” her/his sleeves and get involved at a detailed level;
  • Strong communication skills; ability to present clear and practical legal arguments;
  • Ability to influence others and to gain support for his/her ideas;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a capacity to build strong working relationships across the organization; and
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities.


  • A seasoned attorney with a minimum of three (3) years of experience practicing law, including training at a law firm recognized for its real estate or renewable energy practice.
  • Solid grounding and experience drafting and negotiating PPA and Solar Lease Agreements would be a plus.
  • Possession of a Juris Doctorate issued by a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and a member in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar.
