Shift: 3-11pm

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assess, Diagnose, Plan, Implement and Evaluate patient care for clients.
  • Monitors clients’ vital signs for withdrawal signs/symptoms.
  • Administer medication when ordered and monitor for intended effect.
  • Assists physician during medical history interviews and physical exams.
  • Respond to various medical situations as they arise in a safe yet timely manner
  • Maintains unit milieu, and provides for a safe and secure environment.
  • Work autonomously and with a team.
  • May assist in medical screenings, and admission process for new Austin Recovery clients.
  • Writes reports as required.
  • Make relevant entries in client’s medical charts.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, medical staff, clinicians, and RCS to provide optimal care to all clients.
  • Provide clinical experience on the management of medical and psychiatric emergencies.
  • May handle client Protected Health Information (PHI) on a daily basis.
  • Attends job-related meetings; in-service training, staff development training and remains compliant with all compliance training.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients and their families.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Nurse Manager or Director of Residential Programs.


  • Current Texas RN or LVN credentials
  • Must be Red Cross CPR/First Aid certified upon hire or within two weeks of hire.
  • Good communication skills, ability to work with co-workers and establish rapport with clients.
  • Skill to coordinate work with other AR departments, agencies, organizations, individuals and the public.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and on call and serve clients in any Austin Recovery program.
  • Proficient in use of computers with basic understanding of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work schedule (days/hours) assigned by Nurse Manager.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Communicates orally with management, co-workers and the public in face-to face, one-to-one, and group settings. Regularly uses a telephone or walkie-talkie for communication. Uses office equipment such as computer terminals, copiers, and Fax machines. Sits or stands for extended time periods. Hearing and vision within normal ranges. Uses hands to finger, handle, feel and reach Required to stand and walk, and possibly squat, kneel, or bend lift 25lbs using proper lifting technique


Education and Experience:

At least one-year previous experience working in the field of alcoholism/drug addiction preferred.
