SUMMARY: Lead and manage the daily operations of sales and catering and develop a passionate team to ensure product quality standards are met, optimum service is provided to resort guests and homeowners and all sales and marketing plans are executed to exceed revenue goals. The Director of Sales & Marketing works closely with the General Manager to determine appropriate sales strategies in all market segments including leisure, group conferences and events.



  • Directs the activities of the resort sales and catering team, providing leadership and motivation necessary to implement effective sales and marketing strategies and to maximize the generation of resort sales and catering revenues.
  • Develop and implement effective sales, catering, marketing and advertising efforts for the resort, including securing new accounts, maintaining existing accounts, supervising activities of sales and catering personnel, and executing marketing strategies to maximize the probability of the resort, while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key clients, and within the local community, in order to produce group and/ or convention business, to include room sales, food & beverage sales, and catering/banquet service.
  • Direct the scheduling of conventions and group activities at the Resort and coordinates with other resort-level departments to facilitate services agreed upon by the sales office and prospective clients.
  • Motivate and provide ongoing training and development of all sales and catering associates.
  • Ensure achievement of sales and catering objectives are met on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Review business leads and sales contracts for the number of rooms, rooms to space ratio, average rate and total revenue to ensure they meet the objectives of the resort.
  • Participate in select sales activities both on and off property.
  • Set individual room night and revenue goals.
  • Manage all sales and catering incentive programs.
  • Ensure the integrity of key accounts and the key prospect data base.
  • Monitor the program Delphi for accuracy and details.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget and monitor sales and catering activities/performance to ensure sales meet or exceed established revenue plan; accurately report variances/projects.
  • Produce and distribute 90 day forecast reports weekly and present/review them with the managers at weekly staff meetings.
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist General Manager and Homeowner’s Association Manager with all the marketing initiatives for the resort. Work closely with the ad agency on record. 
  • Collaborate with the General Manager, Director of Rooms and Reservations Manager on revenue management initiatives for leisure business (i.e. establishing rates, creating promotions and campaigns etc.)
  • Support safe work habits of all banquet staff and contribute to a safe working environment at all times.
  • Follow directions, get along with co-workers and supervisors, treat co-workers, supervisors and guests with respect and courtesy, contributes to a positive and rewarding team environment and refrains from abusive, insubordinate and/or violent behavior.

Perform other related duties as requested by the supervisor



  • Strong knowledge of hotel group sales, revenue management and marketing.

  • Five or more years prior experience in hotel/resort sales at the senior director and leadership level.
  • Experience in upscale/luxury property similar size preferred.
  • University/College degree in a related discipline required.



  • Ability to read, comprehend and provide instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to effectively present information to individuals and all sizes of groups (i.e. clients, customers, guests, associates, managers etc.). 



  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze data, drawing a conclusion and providing recommendations for improvement of hotel revenues through business reviews.



  • Computer skills required for communication and reporting in Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Experience with front office systems and Delphi preferred. Knowledge of GDS and OTA web portals as they apply to transient and leisure travel.
  • Proficient in Outlook and Internet applications.



  • Must provide valid document(s) to work in the US.
  • Valid California Driver License is required (for specific positions).


The work environment at Resort ranges from winter time lows of 30 degrees to summer time highs to 80+ degrees. While performing these duties the employee may be exposed to outdoor and inclement weather conditions.

Some positions will be required to wear uniforms. Uniforms are the property of Resort. Uniforms that have been tampered or destroyed will be the responsibility of the employee and disciplinary action will apply.

  • Hair must be clean and kept at a reasonable length.
  • All Food Servers and Culinary personnel must wear their hair tied back.
  • No extreme dying or bleaching of hair is permitted.
  • Fingernails must be clean and well-trimmed at all times.
  • Antiperspirant or deodorant must be worn.
  • Cologne or perfume may be worn at a minimum.
  • Nametags must always be worn, unless your department has a specific policy to the contrary.
