The Community Support Services Director leads CSS functions for adult clients with severe and persistent mental illness by achieving compliance standards and service department objectives, providing strategic leadership and effective supervision of departmental staff.

Essential Functions

  • Accomplishes departmental objectives and goals by researching opportunities and problems, allocating resources according to strategic priorities, inaugurating programs and processes, and evaluating and reporting results.
  • Assumes responsibility and authority of community support services to adult clients through clinical leadership, supervising departmental staff, and building effective and collaborative inter-departmental and external community service relationships.
  • Implements protocols that promote positive customer service functions within the agency. Provides effective leadership to department staff to promote and facilitate the delivery of professional and timely services to clients, families, agency staff, and visitors.
  • Provides clinical leadership for the department by directing and overseeing community-based services, clinical interventions, treatment planning, and appropriate client treatment discharges.
  • Builds effective and collaborative inter-departmental working relationships and guides employees to establish successful working relationships. Executes the integration of community support services with other Center departments and programs.
  • Provides direct family therapy, individual therapy, and group therapy services to child and adolescent clients with severe emotional disturbance (SED diagnosis).
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of all client services, as defined by state licensing agencies, funding agencies, and CrossWinds standards and requirements. Submits progress notes, treatment plans, utilization reviews, client status reports, timesheets, and all work-related paperwork in a timely manner and in acceptable format as determined by agency requirements.
  • Serves as a member of the agency’s executive management team and helps develop and implement long-range goals, strategies, and policies in the agency mission to provide quality mental health care. Attends regular weekly management team meeting and governing board meeting as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervises management staff in the Community Support Services department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time position with hours from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday.  This position requires occasional evening and weekend work as job duties demand.


Required Education and Experience

Master’s or Doctoral Degree in clinical psychology, school of social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy or psychology is minimum required.


Licensure as a master or doctorate level clinician with the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board preferred with special consideration for LSCSW or LP licensure.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Ability to work with persons with severe and persistent mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, and/or substance abuse issues, especially those experiencing a psychiatric crisis; minimum of five years’ work experience in the human services field and previous supervisory experience is desirable; ability to successfully lead and direct a service department and its resources in an effort to support the agency mission; possess demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to react effectively in a variety of human service situations; possess prior computer experience in Microsoft Office programs and basic computer fluency to work within an electronic medical record system.
