Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain inventory of food and non-food items as required to prepare meals in accordance with dietitian approved menus.
  • Stocking salad bar, beverage preparation, and delivery, serving meals to clients, assisting the cook
  • Maintains cleanliness of dining areas, kitchens, food storage areas, and food preparation equipment in accordance with standards established by the Health Department and other inspecting agencies

Detailed duties over 3 phase training plan:

  • Service/Prep I (Trainee)

  • Visually Supervise and monitor the cleanliness of the dining room, salad bar, and line
  • Restock items on salad bar when needed
  • Organize meals and desserts for service on the line
  • Restock cooler with juices and dairy products
  • Restock fruit upon delivery
  • Follow daily portioning when serving food from the line
  • Food handler's Certification
  • Follows coffee and tea service guidelines and delivery to other departments
  • Keep clean and unused Sanitizer in buckets ready for next use
  • Stock to-go items and utensils each shift as needed
  • Records all staff meals on the meal tracker - yourself. (not the staff member)
  • Must attend and complete all meetings and training conducted by the Chef
  • Be familiar with all emergency codes and procedures
  • Has a positive attitude towards the work they do
  • Completes any given and required assignments
  • Is up to date with all required certifications
  • Foster a cooperative rather than a competitive atmosphere
  • Submit schedule requests at least 2 weeks in advance
  • Adheres to proper client treatment (customer service), with friendliness and helpfulness
  • Alert the Chef or cook on duty when running low on items as you approach the final 75%
  • Ability to work flexible hours (Early Mornings, Some Evenings til 7, Rotating Weekends)
  • Ability to independently prepare meals; requires lifting and minimum of 30 lbs., knowledge and skill of food preparation, knowledge of Health Department requirements.
  • Responsible for cooking breakfast when needed.
  • Must have good health habits (washing hands often, etc.)
  • Good eye hand coordination when handling sharp knives and other kitchen tools.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions
  • Must be certified by the Texas Department of Health (ServeSafe) or become certified within 30 days of hire.

    Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Cooking experience required
  • Previous experience in institutional cooking preferred.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Food Services Manager

    Physical Demands/Work Environment:
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Standard commercial kitchen working conditions.
  • Considerable exposure to heat, cold, humidity, stagnant air and slippery floors.
  • Hearing and vision within normal range
  • Uses hands and fingers, handle and feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able up to lift 30 pounds.
