POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Accreditation & Compliance, is responsible for leading processes/workflow to embed quality practices throughout the operational and educational programs for the American Psychiatric Associations (APA) Division of Education. The Director will oversee all aspects of preparing for APAs accreditation for ACCME, CESA, and ACE (Social Workers); will maintain detailed knowledge of accreditation policies; serve as the point of contact for all accreditation bodies ACCME, CESA, ACE, AMA, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) requirements. The Director will monitor and prepare timelines, develop reports, and prepare submissions of all required documents for accreditation; ensure prompt and accurate submission of all required accreditation forms and requests; participate in monitoring all standards for APAs multidisciplinary accreditation requirements; work with all units in the Division of Education to ensure that requirements are met for successful accreditation; work with Division leadership to improve processes and conduct quality audits; work with the Division leadership on strategic and operational planning, and overall quality and compliance for all areas of the Department of Accreditation and Compliance for medical education.

 

The Director will ensure accreditation and quality policies are compatible with the overall strategic goals of the Association. This individual provides overall policy direction for all APA accreditation educational activities, and guidance to the members of the following Division of Education components: Online Learning, SMI Adviser, Scientific Program Committees for the Annual Meeting and the Mental Health Services Conference; the Council on Medical Education and Lifelong Learning; the Subcommittee on Joint Sponsorship of CME Activities; as well as other components as required. Most importantly, the Director serves as our resident in-house expert on all accreditation, compliance, and quality issues.

 

The Director for the Department of Accreditation and Compliance serves as an APA liaison to the ACCME, AMA, ACEHP, CMSS, CESA, ACE and other medical specialty societies for information on comparative programs and utilizes educational consultants, where appropriate.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, revision, and maintenance of strategies related to program and accreditation institutional compliance.
  • Provide written policy and workflows to support the Division of Education.
    • Interpret ACCME, CESA, and ACE requirements in relation to all APA CME activities to maintain the APAs accreditation with the ACCME.
    • Complete ACCME Reaccreditation Self-Study.
    • Lead participation in the reaccreditation survey review and provide information on APA policies and procedures for accreditation activities.
    • Stay up to date on changes in the requirements and maintain records to substantiate APA's compliance with requirements and oversee annual PARS reporting.
    • Serve as the primary administrative staff liaison to the Council on Medical Education and Lifelong Learning.
  • Lead development and implementation of sustainable processes to collect data and evidence for continuous improvement of the APAs accreditation educational programs.
  • Keep abreast of evolving accreditation standards and create written policies to ensure compliance.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data by which the department will assess successes and opportunities for improvement in all areas from medical professionals experience and the administrative process.
  • Identify gaps in efficiency and implement corrective action to maximize effectiveness and quality.
  • Lead the development and implementation of APAs Accreditation Handbook.
  • Assist Division leadership team in achieving short- and long-term programmatic goals used to improve quality and compliance.
  • Lead development and implementation of training programs to educate faculty and staff on benchmarks for accreditation educational program.
  • Serve as the APAs Division of Education resource for all accreditation, compliance, and quality system-related issues /questions and provide technical expertise to staff.
  • Manage all CME related tasks for APAs live meetings (Annual Meeting and Mental Health Services Conference) including but limited to, Calculate CME credit hours, reviewing all materials to ensure it meets accreditation standards and requirements, management of speaker's conflict of interest, and oversee accreditation certifications and certificate of attendance.
  • Liaise with the Director of the Office of Scientific Programs and Meetings/Conventions Department to ensure that all programmatic components of the conferences are compliant according to accreditation guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree Required; Masters Degree or equivalent job experience required.
  • 8-10 years of experience in medical education is required.
  • Formal and practical experience in the principles of project management.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • Proven problem-solving and data analysis experience.
  • Excellent analytical, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
  • Proven ability to plan, develop, monitor and evaluate continuing educational programs for medical professionals, preferably psychiatrists and/or other physicians.
  • Knowledge of ACCME, CESA, ACE, Maintenance of Certification, and AMA Policies related to continuing medical education programs.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate on process improvement initiatives with other Division leaders.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to innovate, think critically, manage change, problem solve, and implement process improvements across all areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to extract and present detailed data in different formats
  • Managerial and supervisory experience is required.
