Under the direct supervision of a dentist, assists with oral surgery and other procedures. Prepares and arranges needed tools and instruments for scheduled procedures. Hands necessary tools and equipment and aids during treatment. May record findings, change barriers, or sterilize equipment. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.






Chairside Assistant: Assists the dentist in providing dental treatment

  • Prepares and maintains dental instruments, instrument transfer, supplies and equipment


  • Collects and records patient health histories


  • Completes dental procedure isolation techniques


  • Prepares dental materials cements, amalgam, composite, impression materials, etc.


  • Takes dental x-rays


  • Performs coronal polishing and placements of sealants


  • Supervises prevention and management of dental medical emergencies


  • Delivers patient personal oral care instructions


Administrative duties: Assists in administrative duties of the office

  • Documents dental care services by charting in patient records.


  • Understands and participates in Joint Commission continual readiness


  • Works with the Clinical Services Department to promote ongoing performance improvement activities


  • Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team


  • Responsible for inventory control and management

  • Associates degree required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years related experience as a dental assistant.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Performance Management Systems.


  • Fluent in English and Spanish- written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.  Excellent oral, written, and listening skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend general instructions, correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and speak before groups of employees and outside consultants and respond to questions/comments from the same.
  • Ability to plan and organize workload.  Ability to handle very detailed information.
