As a Database Developer, you will work with the engineering team, business partners, and data team as well as IT practitioners to analyze data questions. Working alongside our engineering and IT team members, you will work closely with multiple teams to support data quality, reporting, ETL, data usage, and data analysis.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Monitor data quality and remove/correct corrupt data in relational databases and other datasets
  • Summarize common data quality issues and propose solutions
  • Read, interpret and abstract large amounts of data from MySQL databases and other datasets
  • Write SQL to extract, modify or analyze data
  • Analyze data for the betterment of our product
  • Prepare data and present results to the team
  • Contribute to shared schema and process documentation



Our ideal candidate will have:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or relevant field or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in Data Quality, writing SQL, or equivalent
  • Ability to gather, clean and analyze large datasets
  • Ability to synthesize datasets from multiple sources
  • Ability to write reports and communicate project information clearly
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to write complex queries in MySQL SQL
  • Experience with non-SQL data formats like json, parquet, or noSQL databases
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (formulas, filtering, lookups, pivot tables) or equivalent for ad hoc data analysis and cleaning
  • Knowledge of modern SDLC best practices and tools like Continuous Integration, GIT, Bamboo, BitBucket and Jira.

Even better if you have:

  • Recent experience with Python development or scripting data processing tasks
  • Recent Experience with MySQL, Athena and Aurora
  • Experience in AWS technologies such as: lambdas, step functions, CloudFormation, CloudSearch, Glue, Kinesis, S3, Sagemaker
  • Advanced SQL and query optimization skills
  • Experience working with a school information system, with FERPA or HIPAA protected data, or equivalent
  • Experience designing normalized database schemas
  • Understanding of data management (permissions, recovery, security, and monitoring)
  • Use tools and techniques to visualize data in easy-to-understand formats, such as diagrams and graphs

This position will be remote, but could require travel to the Irvine office 2-3x a year. It is also important to be comfortable turning on your webcam to build a rapport, even from a distance.
