  • Maintain inventory of food and non-food items as required to prepare meals in accordance with dietitian approved menus.
  • Ensure safety, food handling and sanitation practices in the kitchen in compliance with organizational, Health Department and other regulatory bodies.
  • Maintains cleanliness of dining areas, kitchens, food storage areas, and food preparation equipment in accordance with standards established by Health Department and other inspecting agencies.
  • Performs other related assignments as directed by Food Services Lead or Director of Residential Program.
  • Receives and monitors food deliveries against requisitions and invoices.
  • Maintains excellent customer service and positive attitude.
  • Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment.
  • Cooks and prepare a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes and when necessary, accommodate a variety of dietary requests
  • Performs other position-appropriate tasks as assigned
  • Ability to work flexible hours (Early Mornings, All Holidays, Nights, Weekends)
  • Ability to independently prepare meals; requires lifting and minimum of 30 lbs., knowledge and skill of food preparation, knowledge of Health Department requirements.
  • Must have good health habits (washing hands often, etc.)
  • Good hand-eye coordination when handling sharp knives and other kitchen tools.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions.
  • Must be certified by the Texas Department of Health or become certified within 30 days of hire.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Cooking experience required
  • Previous experience in institutional cooking preferred.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Kitchen Supervisor 

    Physical Demands/Work Environment:
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Standard commercial kitchen working conditions.
  • Considerable exposure to heat, cold, humidity, stagnant air and slippery floors.
  • Hearing and vision within normal range
  • Uses hands and fingers, handle and feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able up to lift 30 pounds.
