JOB TITLE:             Quality Assurance Manager                   DIVISIONQuality Assurance Laboratory / Processing Plant

REPORTS TO:  Director of Plant Operations

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Quality Assurance Laboratory, Quality Control and Sanitation

JOB PURPOSE: The Quality Assurance Manager will oversee all employees in the following departments: Sanitation, Quality Control/Quality Assurance and the Quality Assurance Laboratory.  The Quality Assurance Manager is ultimately responsible for maintaining all food safety and quality systems while ensuring all local, state, federal, and international regulations and guidelines are upheld.


Monitoring and Maintaining Sanitation Department

  • Sanitation Personnel
  • SSOPs
  • Yearly Revisions
  • Ensuring proper development and implementation
  • Maintain vendor relationships
  • Cleaning of processing areas to ensure food safety
  • Cleaning of non-processing areas
  • Head Annual shut-down

Monitoring and Maintaining Product Quality Control – Physical

  • Ensure all agreed to customer specifications and requests are met
  • Ensure all product specifications are met
  • QC Personnel
  • QC activities and reports
  • Must ensure that internal and customer specifications are met
  • Ensure USDA Grade Requests are fulfilled and submitted for analysis
  • QC SOPs
  • Annual Revision
  • Ensuring proper implementation

Monitoring and Maintaining Product Quality Assurance – Microbiological

  • Ensure all agreed to customer specifications and requests are met
  • Ensure all product specifications are met
  • Ensure Lab Safety
  • Lab personnel
  • Laboratory Activity Monitoring
  • LSOPs and Laboratory Policies
  • Lab audits and Proficiency testing
  • Must ensure all internal and customer specifications are met
  • Must ensure all legality items are met
  • Generate COAs

Propylene Oxide or any other gas treatments

  • Adherence to local, state, federal, and international regulations and guidelines
  • Residual PPO testing
  • Properly manage treatment records

Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

  • Maintain relationship with outside contractor(s).
  • Responding to Outside Pest Service’s findings – PCA reports which includes any necessary employee meetings
  • In-house activities
  • Maintain program to ensure there is no adulteration of products

Pesticide Residual Analysis

  • Sending out in-shell and processed pecans for pesticide residual based on GFSI schedule customer requirements
  • Adherence to local, state and federal regulations and guidelines

Managing Customers / 3rd Party Audits

  • Coordinate all audit preparation activities and ensure compliance with standards set in such audits.
  • Ensure all corrective actions are completed in a timely manner and communicated to parties required corrective action.

Internal Audits

  • Ensure internal audits are conducted based on schedule and all corrective actions are completed in a timely manner
  • Understands this is a Safety Sensitive position.


  • Plant GMP inspection on a monthly and as needed basis – all areas, items (equipment, utensils, facility grounds, etc.)
  • Develop, maintain and enforce Plant policies and procedures
  • Manage Plant Training (Food Safety)
  • Maintain Calibration Records
  • Manage customer complaint investigations
  • Enforce all food and workplace safety policies
  • Follow all proper protocols when crossing from Low Risk Areas (Raw Materials/Inshell) to Production/Ambient
  • High-Care Areas (Ready-to-Eat).
  • Assist with plant training by ensuring that department employees attend required trainings
  • Attend all required trainings


The position requires:

  • The ability to lift up to 30 lb boxes, perform visual inspections, and the ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Serve on the following Committees:
  • Assist Sales and QA with customer complaint investigations
  • Participate as a HACCP team member
  • Participate as a RAG team member
  • Attend pertinent meetings and contribute to discussions
  • Assist all company departments as needed
  • Environment can be loud, but earplugs are provided.


  • Successful completion of a 4-year Degree in a science-related field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn & troubleshoot new computer systems and to verify accuracy of data entered into computer systems.
  • Experience within a laboratory setting.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods of standing, sitting
  • Work is indoors in seasonally cooled and heated area.
  • Will work around moving industrial equipment.
  • Environment can be loud – earplugs are provided.
