Description
  • Responsible for all kitchen staff, including hiring, training, and scheduling
  • Enforce sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas. Ensure compliance with operational standards, company policies, federal/state/local laws, and ordinances
  • Monitors quality control and client satisfaction
  • Creates approved menus for all Austin Recovery Family House Program including meals for adults and children within required dietary and health standards
  • Adheres to Texas Administrative Code meal and snack requirements
  • Attain a minimum score of 90% Health Department Inspections
  • Ensures employees adhere to sanitation, safety and food regulations in accordance with standards established by Health Department and other inspection agencies
  • Anticipates kitchen needs and fills in where needed to ensure service standards and efficient operations
  • Attends and participates in weekly management meetings, bringing suggestions for improvements
  • Controls food portions for a balanced food cost, manages food waste
  • Must be able to work and prep all stations (AM and PM)
  • Attends client community meetings or other agency meetings, as assigned
  • Maintains kitchen staff coverage at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Texas Food Management Certification
  • Must treat others with respect at all time
  • Clear communication both verbal and written
  • Culinary and management experience
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Flexible availability
  • Capacity to multitask

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Certification in Food Manager Certification required
  • 5 years experience in institutional cooking required

Supervised By:

  • Director of Residential Program 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Communicates well orally with management, co-workers and the public in face-to face, one-to-one, and group settings
  • Stands for extended time periods
  • Hearing and vision within normal ranges
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds
