Strategic Imperative (“Why the position is key to Mathnasium success”):

The core of our business is built around the success of our franchisees. As such, the strategic imperative of the Franchise Business Consultant role is to facilitate that success by building and cultivating strong relationships with each franchisee in his/her portfolio, ensuring compliance to the Mathnasium Method and business systems, providing business consultation on what they could do to increase business (lead generation/conversion) to improve profit, and advocate for both the company and the franchisee.

Primary Objectives (2-3 main focal points of the job)

  • Evaluate and ensure the quality of the franchise centers are in alignment with Mathnasium HQ expectations and compliance requirements
  • Provide consultative guidance for the owners and Center Directors
  • Develop Learning Centers into profit centers for the owners
  • Function as liaison between Mathnasium HQ and the Franchisee

Essential Job Functions (Key Performance Indicators)

  • Ensure the quality of the franchise centers are in alignment with Mathnasium expectations
    • Perform learning center site visits at a minimum of once per year per site.
    • Gather all measurements of a center and provide feedback/report to franchisees on a annual  basis
    • When new systems are released, make sure that franchisees in the area are in-the-know and provide training/support as needed
    • As compliance list grows, ensure franchisees in the area are informed
    • When non-compliance items are found, work with franchisee to correct issue prior to escalating it, allotting appropriate time for correction
    • When not corrected, report non-compliance items to HOD Franchise Operations
    • Assist franchisees in selling and/or closing their centers, when necessary. 
  • Provide consultative guidance for the owners and Center Directors
    • Help franchisees set targets and hold them accountable - Consult / Manage / Coach franchisees to increase revenue and profitability
    • Evaluate center operations and coach franchisees to set and reach new targets
  • Develop Learning Centers into profit centers for the owners This is really a Start Up Specialist responsibility
    • Work with the FBC, Start-Up Specialist to welcome new franchisees and serve as their connection to Mathnasium after Initial Training attendance, set the tone for relationship and future meetings; Within 1 week of initial training attendance, meet with each new franchisee in the area or responsibility. Assist existing franchisees with center site selection when opening additional locations, according to the guidelines set out in the Mathnasium Operating System
    • Arrange and lead semi-annual regional-based group training, working with the Director of Franchise Training
    • As appropriate, work with groups of geographically close franchisees to coordinate marketing efforts, and other group efficiency opportunities.
  • Function as liaison between Mathnasium HQ and the Franchisee
    • Be a balanced advocate…represent Mathnasium HQ (for example: compliance matters, changes to business systems, the Mathnasium Method) as well as represent the franchisee (for example: identifying root cause issues causing business challenges or impacting franchisee satisfaction and advocate for the reasonable need for change to HQ)
    • Create and maintain a professional and mutually respectful relationship with each franchisee in the area of responsibility
    • The quality of the information shared should reflect real listening and interaction with Franchisees as well as an understanding of the system.
    • Serve as advocate for changes in systems or processes on behalf of Franchisees to HQ

Required Skills (“What you are good at”)

  • Reading/analyzing financial data (i.e. QuickBooks P&L)
  • 5+ years of experience in field support with a franchise organization
  • Ideal experience in franchise with a services focused solution
  • Strong consultative skills, with a history of working in a consultative function
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, as well as listening skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to multi-task, have strong organization skills, and be detail minded

Preferred Skills (“EXTRA Awesome”)

  • Background in auxiliary education
  • Background and/or passion for math
