SUMMARY:

In accordance with RNP's Mission Statement, Philosophy of Client Care and Code of Ethics as stated in the Personnel Policies and under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator, completes intake assessments on incoming clients and counsels individuals and/or groups regarding substance abuse problems and co-occurring disorders, and develops and implements a therapeutic treatment plan by performing the following duties.

 

HOURS: Monday - Friday 7:00 am-3:00 pm

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties are subject to accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Conducts screening, intake, orientation and multi-dimensional assessment of clients to obtain information concerning substance abuse and medical history or other pertinent information.
  • Connects clients with necessary supports and provides warm handoffs to primary clinicians and other RNP resources inside of the building.
  • Implements therapeutic treatment using approved methods of planning, counseling, case management and crisis intervention to assist clients in overcoming substance abuse disorders and other co-occurring issues.
  • Prepares and maintains records on assigned caseload and issues reports, according to Agency and regulatory body standards.
  • Ability to complete documentation in a timely manner.
  • Consults with Clinical Coordinator, Medical Doctor, Psychiatric staff or other specialists concerning treatment plan and amends plan as directed.
  • Provides information and education to individuals, families and groups concerning substance abuse and mental health disorders (co-occurring disorder).
  • Refers clients to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling.
  • Is an Agency approved driver.
  • Assumes all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication skills and customer service representation.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of counseling.
  • Knowledge of American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) requirements and core principles.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and evaluate information pertinent to the care of clients. 
  • Ability to meet Agency and regulatory body standards of documentation.
  • Knowledge of the physical, psychological, social and economic effects of substance abuse, homelessness, medical and mental health issues. 
  • Knowledge of community resources. Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships. 
  • Ability to project a professional image.

 

 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Licensed alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), License Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Masters/Clinical Social Worker (LMSW/LCSW).
  • Master’s degree in the behavioral sciences and two (2) years experience in counseling preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license may be required

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment. The position requires the physical ability to kneel, bend and perform light lifting. This person must have the ability to write and speak clearly using the English language to convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the telephone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Generally, the working conditions are good with little or no exposure to extremes in health, safety hazards and/or hazardous materials. This person must have the ability to travel as required to work with staff.
