POSITION OVERVIEW

The purpose of this classification is to provide for the extra short term or intermittent work needs of programs that are not covered by an existing job description. An employee hired into this position performs under direct supervision of the assigned supervisor. Primary duties will vary as assigned and may include office, clerical, professional or manual labor tasks at a level of responsibility commensurate with the assignments and with the qualifications indicated below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide physical labor including site custodial or maintenance; moving of materials, office equipment or furniture; operates power equipment and tools, gardening and/or related work.
  • Provide client support services in conformance with guidelines and/or requirements of the program or project and/or its funder(s).
  • Perform clerical and office duties as assigned that may include but are not limited to filing and copying documents; retrieving, tracking, collating or analyzing data and information; reviewing and/or updating databases and/or files; processing documents; reviewing certifications and re-certifications for accuracy.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding work information.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Additional specific duties for position as hired (including, but not limited to):

  • Work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Training Contractor at approved NCO education and construction sites to learn construction skills, perform construction job duties and rehabilitate properties.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is recommended.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of interpersonal communications.
  • Current standard office practices, procedures, and equipment.

Ability to:

  • Safely operate standard power and hand tools used in general repair, construction and mechanical work.
  • Interact with others in a culturally and emotionally sensitive manner.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately verbally and in writing in English is required.
  • Take direction and work with supervisor to ensure priorities are correctly aligned and accomplished.
  • Be effective working independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Use good judgment, creativity; tactful, thorough and dependable.

Necessary Special Skills & Requirements:

  • For work-related driving, must have a valid California driver’s license, a verifiable good driving record, and access to a vehicle with insurance that covers the employee as a driver OR reliable transportation with proof of automobile insurance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, listen, and communicate clearly.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, use tools or controls, use manual and automatic construction and maintenance equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; bend; dig, reach down and stretch overhead; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee will regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, unassisted using ergonomic guidelines.
  • The employee may lift and/or move up to 40 pounds unassisted and may occasionally move and lift heavier materials with assistance, in all cases using ergonomic guidelines.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The ability to travel during the day and/or night, sometimes long distance – possession of a valid California Driver’s License and access to an insured vehicle is required.
  • Interaction and contact with outside agencies, vendors, funders, volunteers, donors, and contributors is a frequent aspect of this job.
  • The employee may use moving mechanical equipment, farming and gardening tools, use computers and computer printers, telephones, and other similar electronic office equipment.
