About the position

The CFO is responsible for developing the overall financial policies of both sister organizations and providing strategic direction on all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, insurance, tax, and treasury; ensuring proper financial controls are in place and that financial transactions support the overall business strategy while conforming with applicable laws and regulations.

Reporting:

  • Report directly to Chief Executive Officer of MIND Research Institute and the President of MIND Research Inc. (currently the same person)
  • Serve as Board Officer - Secretary/Treasurer for both Boards
  • Sit on the Finance Committees for both Boards
  • Participate as a member of the leadership team and the senior executive team
  • Manage Accounting, Finance, Human Resources and ERP (financial system)
  • Directly supervise three direct reports (Controller, Human Resources Manager and ERP Manager) and indirectly five additional staff members (Payables, Payroll, Sr. NetSuite Developer, Administrative Specialist, Receptionist)

Our Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Facilitate and review the accuracy and completion of monthly financial statements including balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement within 5 business days of month end
  • Work closely with external accounting firm (BDO) to complete business income tax returns and annual financial audits for both organizations
  • Enter and/or review and oversee the accuracy and completion of journal entries including, but not limited to cash, receivables, payables and revenue and expense accrual entries
  • Review bills for accuracy and proper approval authorization
  • Journalize activities and transactions in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare miscellaneous month end reports as needed for sales, operations, the executive management team, and board of directors
  • Prepare and present financial updates at Board and Finance Committee meetings
  • Provide guidance in establishing pricing for products and services
  • Coordinate with leadership and prepare budgets and timely monthly comparisons of actual performance against budget to each Board and members of the leadership team
  • Actively participate in the banking and private equity relationships as needed to guide credit and treasury management strategies
  • Participate in property/casualty insurance renewals, risk management and processing losses/claims as needed in conjunction with the companys Agent
  • Facilitate cost accounting necessary to monitor budgets for capital projects and provide budget vs. actual comparisons to all stakeholders
  • Ensure ERP (NetSuite) is setup properly and any errant data entry is corrected timely
  • Coordinates with CRM managers to ensure accurate data connections between the ERP and CRM (Salesforce) and ST Math (proprietary math learning platform)
  • Builds and maintains Business Intelligence dashboards for real-time leadership decision making
  • Oversees employee satisfaction programs in conjunction with Human Resources to ensure MIND remains an employer of choice
  • Executive sponsor along with CEO on proprietary Diversity and Equity initiatives that are truly inclusive (not divisive or exclusive)
  • Work with Board Chairs and CEO/President to compile minutes and resolutions and ensures timely submission of materials for Board portal (onBoard).
  • Oversee corporate archives and organizational documents
  • Oversee risk management and business continuity plans
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • B.A./B.S. in Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred
  • 5-10 years of experience as CFO in $20-50+ million organizations (preferably software/SaaS)
  • Background in education and/or nonprofits a plus
  • Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP system, Salesforce or similar CRM and Business Intelligence dashboard systems
  • Experience in M&A, raising capital a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work well with other departments to support their finance and accounting needs
