Public Relations Manager



We are seeking a professional and energetic Public Relations Manager to join our team! The PR Manager will serve as a manager of media communications, photo resource development and coordinate the administration and execution of relevant stories to generate positive media exposure for the Johnny Morris Foundation under the direction from the Director of Marketing and Foundation Leadership Team.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage the productivity and accountability of public relations firms to secure: media coverage, organization of PR files, documentation of efforts, media pitches, and media visits.
  • Build relationships with writers, editors and members of the media and ascertain needs or inform of new offerings or press opportunities.
  • Proactively assist media with requests by sending media kits, press releases, video files and electronic images.
  • Appropriately prioritize media opportunities and respond appropriately or seek assistance.
  • Determine offerings to showcase for media events, media kits and trade shows.
  • Write/edit press releases on new offerings and events, and prepare for printing and distribution through the creation of media lists containing targeted outlets and regions with preferred areas of coverage.
  • Assist hosting of media, VIP individuals and/or groups.
  • Maintain database of media personnel/contacts.  Continue setting up email groups of writers and organize by region and writing specialty.
  • Keep record of all Wonders of Wildlife, Dogwood Canyon, and Top of the Rock press coverage and distribute said press coverage to the larger team when relevant.
  • Maintain efficient filing system for all communication processes.
  • Manage and originate all WOW and DWC photography and the distribution of said photography for print media, website graphics, etc.
  • Assemble media kits and coordinate bulk mailings.
  • Use cloud based operating systems to store and organize information and share with media.
  • Assist with quarterly printed/mailed membership newsletter
  • Brand and content management across multiple channels including but not limited to: websites, social media, eblasts and Big Cedar collateral.
  • Create and distribute response to the public during crisis situations after obtaining all needed approvals.
  • Be available for events that sometime occur on nights and weekends
  • Public speaking at private and public events.
  • Organize private media events through the coordination of utilizing available resources on and off property.
  • Provide superior service to our customers (both internal and external), while upholding service standards
  • Responsible for tracking and analyzing relevant metrics and data and providing regular reports to Department Director and Sr. Leadership.
  • Must possess a sense of urgency and be solutions oriented and/or approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset
  • Travel to other properties as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must adhere to all company/department safety standards and policies.
  • Must be open to working mandatory/approved overtime.
  • Must be open to working weekends/weekdays/nights when necessary/critical to support the business.  
  • Must be able to cover shifts at affiliate Conservation Attraction properties.
  • Must have an approved driving record and operate a company vehicle if required/applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Communications/Public Relations
  • 4+ years in marketing and/or communications preferred
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Analytical skills required
  • Ability to perform as a strong team player at both a local and corporate level
  • Requires walking/standing approximately 10% of the time, sitting 80% of the tine, forward bending and crouching 10% of the time, lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Any combination of experience, education, skills, certification(s) etc. will be taken into consideration
  • Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to sunlight, various animals, weather, loud sounds, low lighting, close quarters, high/low temperatures, etc.
