We are currently seeking a Legal Assistant to join our downtown Seattle office. Under the technical direction of a Paralegal, the Legal Assistant provides a range of legal support, with a variety of clerical and administrative activities, supporting Attorneys and Paralegals. This position's responsibilities include drafting and record-keeping activities to ensure a smoothly run office and great experience for our teams and clients.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist legal teams with opening new client physical files
  • Assist legal teams with drafting internal forms (Request to Close, Request to Transfer, Check Request, Case Cover Sheet, etc.)
  • Attend case status meeting with Attorneys and Paralegals and assist Paralegals in maintaining attendant Client Status Reports
  • Assist legal teams with drafting, filing, serving, and tracking general pleadings and documents/correspondence (Notice of Appearance, Notice of Absence, Notice of Intent to Withdraw, Transmittal Memorandums, etc.)
  • Assist legal teams with creating initial client Master Information List in FamilySoft and preparing draft shell pleadings
  • Create pleading caption and correspondence templates in Word
  • Assist legal teams with preparing and tracking parenting seminar, trial waiver, and closing correspondence
  • Assist legal teams with case docketing, including maintaining tickle box (if applicable) and sending reminders to Attorneys and Paralegals and tracking of trial deposits
  • Assist legal teams with processing incoming and outgoing mail, and legal messenger deliveries, and provide copies to client via client’s preferred method (email, mail)
  • Assist legal teams with arranging for personal service and special messenger deliveries
  • Assist legal teams with scheduling telephone conferences, in-office appointments, and conference rooms, if needed
  • Process legal messenger return slips by ensuring that materials were timely delivered and instructions were followed
  • Contact businesses for sample QDROs and subpoena service information
  • Contact potential Guardians ad Litem/Parenting Evaluators for availability and retainer information
  • Assist legal teams with detailed categorization and document indexing of client paperwork (tax returns, pay stubs, etc.)
  • Assist legal teams with assembling mediation materials, ER 904 Notices, Sealed Financial Source Documents, Joint Statement of Evidence, trial notebooks, and motion documents
  • Assist legal teams with scheduling trial witnesses for trial preparation with Attorneys and maintain testimony schedule, spreadsheet, and binder for trial witnesses
  • Update internal forms and notify appropriate departments when client contact information changes
  • Assist legal teams with scheduling and confirming court reporters and conference rooms for depositions
  • Forward invoices to appropriate department for payment
  • Input time into billing system
  • At least 1-2 years of law firm experience is required; family law experience preferred
  • Knowledge of legal principles, research techniques and legal terminology
  • Ability to work well under pressure and strict deadlines
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Demonstrated intermediate MS Office Suite skill with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, and Excel 
  • Desire and aptitude to learn Adobe Acrobat, legal databases, and time and billing programs
  • Capacity to work regular office hours (8 am-5 pm) dependably
