As a Volunteer Experience Specialist you will provide assistance with coordination and implementation of effective volunteer engagement, policies, procedures, and best practices throughout the Mission. This position serves as a general resource to Mission for management of volunteer engagement systems, processes, training, and administrative support.




  • Manage and meet annual goals for your portfolio of 150-250 volunteers, including: (50-60%)
    • Care for volunteers with an emphasis on heavy two-way engagement and interaction.
    • Challenge new and current general volunteers to engage with the Mission at a deeper level.
    • Effectively use VolunteerHub to create compelling online volunteer opportunities and troubleshoot for volunteers and Mission staff who are using the system.
    • Serve on-site with volunteers to cultivate relationships, collaborate with staff, and become familiar with volunteer duties.
  • Champion VE inside and outside the Mission, including (20-30%)
    • Participate in volunteer and staff training initiatives.
    • Assist with volunteer recognition activities.
    • Serve as a liaison between volunteers and Mission staff to clarify communication, problem solve, and help resolve conflict.
    • Represent the Mission at volunteer fairs, tours, and group service projects.
    • Contribute to the volunteer newsletter.
  • Pilot and refine educational internship programs and group volunteer opportunities. (10-20%)
    • Work closely with volunteer groups from corporations, churches, and other organizations to connect them to the work of the Mission in a meaningful way.
    • Maintain relationships with local schools to encourage placement of interns at the Mission and work with program staff to create meaningful intern opportunities
  • Attend and participate in all Mission, Division, and Department meetings and training, as required.
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent years of experience required. 
  • 3+ years of experience working with volunteers.
  • 2+ years managing and stewarding relationships.
  • Previous experience in a public-facing role preferred.  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Database experience desired.


Work Environment


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time in a temperature-controlled environment.  Occasionally will stand, balance, twist, stoop, kneel and reach with hands/arms.  Occasionally lifts up to 20 pounds and walks, use stairways to climb to multiple floors within the company.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
