As an Education and Career Services Coordinator you will be responsible for coordinating the Career Pathway and Education Programs of the Men’s Recovery Program (MRP) at Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Manage, support, facilitate and review the work of Clerks and Intern (s) by equipping, encouraging, and empowering them in their specific areas of responsibility, which include regular one-one meetings, developing, implementing, and maintaining career development plans and timely annual performance reviews.
  • Manage the operations, programs, and assets of the Men’s Education Center and Career Pathways Program.
  • Develop and manage worker certification process that includes training, in partnership with local industry, NGO’s, community colleges, and labor unions.
  • In collaboration with other Mission departments, create, implement and maintain inter-organizational work therapy and internship opportunities that meet both the Men’s Recovery Program objectives and the Mission departments’ people resource needs.
  • In collaboration with Men’s Recovery Program (MRP) staff, create and implement training, resource, and employment plan for each resident, tailored to varied employment and resource barriers and needs.
  • Create and teach employment readiness and life skills courses to the Men’s Recovery Program residents in conjunction with the Career and Education component of the program to equip men for workplace success.
  • Create an atmosphere of accountability and support for graduates looking for future employment.   
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and complete Education and Career records of students of student activity and outcomes to include a roll-up of monthly statistical data to MRP Director.
  • Make effective use of volunteers to augment and enhance the Education Center and Career Pathways process, in collaboration with the Volunteer Engagement Department, to include scheduling and training of interns, volunteers, and program residents in the work therapy certification process as appropriate.
  • Conduct interviews with MRP residents three months before graduation to complete a transitional plan of action.
  • Work in effective partnership with MRP case managers by regularly reporting on resident progress and behavior, participating in case manager meetings, and participating in the work assignment process as necessary.
  • Work effectively with colleagues throughout the Mission's organization to achieve ministry objectives, maintaining good communication and working relationships
  • Represent the Mission in the civic community in regards to assigned areas of ministry, furthering the Mission's ability to be regarded as Seattle's first choice to address homelessness and the problems facing those in greatest need.
  • Maintain a positive, pleasant, professional Christian attitude. Work with other staff to forge and model transparent and supportive Christian relationships which will serve as a Leadership example for recovery program men.
  • Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission accepts and encourages the involvement of volunteers at all levels in the organization. All employees are expected to interact positively and cooperatively with our volunteers.
  • Attend and participate in all Mission, Division, and Department meetings and training, as required.
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Education, Biblical Studies, Social Services, or related field preferred. 
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with disadvantaged populations is required, specifically in the areas of chronic homelessness, substance addiction, criminal history, inconsistent or negative work history, and/or long-term dependency on public assistance programs. 
  • Experience is strongly preferred in the following areas: adult education, volunteer management, partnership creation, training and development, recruitment, employment, and education preparation.
  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License and be able to meet the standards of the Mission driver criteria required, including but not limited to:
    • Clean driving record
    • No current suspensions or revocations
    • At least 21 years of age.

 

Work Environment

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time in a temperature-controlled environment.  Requires frequent use of computers, keyboarding, and talking on the telephone.  Occasionally will stand, balance, twist, bend, stoop, kneel and reach with hands/arms.  Regularly lifts up to 20 pounds and walks using stairways to climb to multiple floors within the facility.  Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
