Recreation Program Manager

Keshet is a one-of-a-kind organization that brings classroom experiences, camps, sports, social and vocational activities, and residential opportunities to 600 people with disabilities and special needs each year.

The Recreation Program Manager has the overall responsibility for successful recreation and summer programming. Including but not limited to the following areas:

General Administrative Functions: 

  • Follow through with all necessary administrative functions, including payroll, staff evaluations, program evaluation, and parent communications 
  • Recruiting, hiring, training and supervision of staff 
  • Ability to work with and consult with agencies serving Keshet campers   

Oversee all aspects of Recreational Activities for adult and child participants: Buddy Programs (Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Choir, Special Olympics); After School/Work Programs, Youth Groups, Keshet Winter & Summer Camps and other programs

  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise the coaches, volunteers and program staff/aids
  • Market and promote all programs
  • Serve as liaison to parents of program participants and volunteers
  • Content creation for all above programs
  • Act as a resource for any coach, staff or volunteer about the participant and their abilities 
  • Oversee all program logistics including but not limited to transportation, food, attendance and supplies etc.
  • Design and implement regular trainings for staff/volunteers and program evaluations for participants
  • Keep attendance of volunteer hours 
  • Promote inclusion with all programs 
  • Be present at all programs and events

Summer Programming: 

  • Work in conjunction with staff of Keshet camp and school programs to coordinate efforts 
  • Work with parents and staff to prepare for campersparticipation in program, including coordination with IEP goals and becoming familiar with campers’ therapeutic, medical, vocational and communication goals/challenges 
  • Coordinate with host site staff to prepare and run inclusive program 
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of staff training, parent orientation and all camp kick-off
  • Assist with matching up staff members with individual campers (1:1) 
  • Hire all camp staff throughout all camp sites 
  • Visit all camp sites throughout the summer to ensure that we are providing an inclusive environment and give support to site directors 
  • Oversee all logistics at camp 
  • Coordinate substitutes and communicate with all directors on a daily basis to ensure staffing needs are met 
  • Assist host sites in transitioning campers who need Keshet support 
  • Communicate with parents and help with recruitment of new campers 
  • Create registration for campers and applications for staff 
  • Ensure all camper and staff paperwork is in order and meets all HR and agency requirements
  • Communicate with supervisory team about concerns with any campers and staff 
  • Troubleshoot any camper or staff performance or behavior concerns
  • Coordinate Extended School Year Paraeducators 

Additional Responsibilities Outside the Recreation Department: 

  • Social Media 
    • Maintain Facebook, Instagram Twitter and other platforms
    • Communicate with all programs to ensure story and picture updates 
  • CampMinder 
    • Communicate with CampMinder team for questions and updates
    • Attend CampMinder Camp to ensure that we are keeping up with their latest programs
    • Create registration and staff applications 

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Special Education, or Therapeutic Recreation preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with camper, parents, staff, community partners, and donors 
  • Strong camping background is required, preferably in a camper care, inclusion, or special needs role
  • Experience planning, running and managing programs
  • Knowledge of Judaics
  • Type 75 certificate preferred
  • Available to work irregular hours including weekends
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and adept at performing multiple tasks at once
  • CPR and First Aid Certificate required
