The Digital Operations Coordinator, Digital Publishing is responsible for supporting the stability and availability of APA digital products. The Digital Operations Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations of PsychiatryOnline (POL), APAs digital content platform and the creation and maintenance of other APA Publishing digital products. This position supports the Assistant Director, Digital Publishing Operations, in implementing and managing new and existing digital publishing products. Responsibilities include supporting platform management and content and feature development of digital publishing products. Duties require application of technical expertise and knowledge of platform features, user experience (UX), and website design. This position reports and escalates issues related to digital publishing products, including POL and the DSM-5 app. Under the direction of the Assistant Director this position will publish and maintain web pages for digital products. Provides front-line technical support for POL stakeholders. Provides support for all digital products.



  • Provides front-line point of contact for digital publishing stakeholders, including APA staff, institutional administrators, individual customers, and vendors. Oversees the submission of requests for changes to POL and other digital products.
    • Understands the requirements and needs of institutional administrators and individual customers and acts as support contact for POL internal and external stakeholders and vendors. Answers front-line requests from APA staff for technical information related to POL and digital products.
    • Maintains trouble log and works with staff and vendor to ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner while maintaining a collaborative working relationship.
    • Schedules and performs spot checks of all digital products ensuring they are accessible to subscribers. Documents any quality or access issues. Reviews with Assistant Director and reports to vendor and other stakeholders as needed.
    • Reviews web traffic reports using vendor report products and Google Analytics.
    • Assists with access control and technical support issues for individual and institutional customers.


  • Provides support to the launch and maintenance of all digital products and new feature development.
    • Under the direction of the Assistant Director, assist with the development of digital products on POL and other digital platforms. Assist in testing and launching products.
    • Lends support to maintaining the integrity of digital products through the life cycle.
    • Performs administrative tasks related to platform maintenance, including informing stakeholders regularly on status of projects and contributing to ongoing technology assessments.


  • Support media-rich digital products including podcasts.
    • Work with Director, Digital Publishing, Marketing, and podcast hosts in choosing guests and topics for APA publishing podcasts.
    • Schedules recording of podcasts. Completes pre-interview questions for guest and provides to host.
    • Records podcast episodes ensuring sound levels are accurate. Edits content prior to distribution.
    • Writes copy about the content of podcasts for inclusion on the syndication platform. Ensures that each abstract is written to standards for discoverability.
    • Provides reporting on performance of podcasts and provides suggestions on how to improve performance.
    • While maintaining site design UX, builds pages for each new podcast episode on POL.


  • Stays current on evolving technologies that hold promise for APA publications; supports Assistant Director in advising publishing staff on application of new technology to publishing projects.
    • Participates in ongoing training.
    • Monitors industry literature.
    • Attends professional/industry meetings as warranted.
    • Participates in seminars, courses as warranted.
    • Networks with industry colleagues.
    • Shares knowledge with APA colleagues; set up demos for promising vendors, technologies, etc.



This position requires a bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of digital publishing and/or podcast experience. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, ability to creatively solve problems, and strong project management skills are essential. Knowledge of website UX design and publishing systems and emerging technologies as they apply to publishing is desired. XML knowledge desired.
