Position Summary:

The responsibilities of this position are to assist the protein product development team in recombinant protein expression.  This includes the preparation of eukaryotic expression vectors, cell culture, and screening procedures.  The position involves various techniques such recombinant DNA cloning, DNA preparation, mammalian and insect cell culture, transfections, Western blotting, ELISA, and flow cytometry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Expression of recombinant proteins in mammalian and insect cell lines, using established cell culture and transfection techniques and procedures
  • Protein expression analysis using Western Blot, ELISA, flow cytometry or other established procedures
  • Contribute suggestions for improving expression of difficult expression projects
  • Work collaboratively with other teams/departments on special projects
  • Written and electronic documentation of experimental work
  • Participation in general lab duties such as preparation of media, buffers and other reagents,  equipment maintenance and record keeping

Education and Experience:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or equivalent with a minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 0-2 years of experience.


Required Skills:

  • Mammalian cell culture experience
  • Ability to learn and implement new techniques
  • DNA cloning experience, including construct and primer design
  • Working knowledge of scientific principles
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work as part of team, including good verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with transfection into mammalian cells, preferably using lipid or electroporation transfection techniques
  • Experience with expression analysis techniques such as Western blotting, ELISA, and flow cytometry
  • Ability use search scientific literature and apply findings to develop expression strategies
