Speech and Debate Assistant Coach
Job Details

Charlotte Latin School has an immediate need for a Speech and Debate Assistant Coach.  The Assistant Coach supports Latin's Speech and Debate program. This position typically meets throughout the academic year on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00pm though hours may vary based on school and program need. This position may work on the physical Latin campus or remotely via video conferencing.

Responsibilities

  • Coach middle and high school competitors in Lincoln-Douglas Debate

  • Assist with topic research, giving feedback on cases, and preparation for competitions

  • Coach competitors during tournament weekends as needed

  • Facilitate practice rounds

  • Serve as a judge for tournaments as needed

  • Potential student supervision responsibilities when the program returns to in-person competitions, including travel as needed

Education and Qualifications

  • High school graduate

  • Former competitor in high school or college debate, with focus on Lincoln-Douglas Debate

  • Experience working with middle and high school-aged students

  • Prior experience coaching is strongly desired

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Reliable, flexible, patient, and organized

  • Available to work occasional nights and weekends
