Position Overview:

Responsible for procuring and processing online and physical library resources. Provides leadership for Resource Acquisition Department. Provides stewardship in sustaining the library’s acquisitions budget and “in-time” access to all learning resources. Assists with troubleshooting resource access problems. Assists with promoting public awareness and use of resources.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

· Leads/conducts all negotiations with information providers/vendors to secure the most relevant content at the most cost-effective rates for all resources.

· Manages licensing and establishing access to databases, electronic journals, and journal packages.

· Participates in troubleshooting access problems with databases, electronic journals, and journal packages.

· Oversees the maintenance of vendor contract information in library technology platform.

· Calculates departmental allocations of annual materials budget according to established criteria.

· Manages Acquisitions and Serials teams and ordering, payment, and receipt of all resources.

· Provides training and guidance to the teams to ensure the teams stay abreast of current trends and best practices.

· Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and documentation for serials management.

· Reviews usage statistics and communicates with faculty, students, and librarians to gather feedback and perform collection analysis. Assists and advises on purchase/retention of resources.

· Participates in continuing education, conferences, workshops, seminars, or other activities that enhance professional knowledge and contributes to professional communities.

· Serves as Collection Development Liaison to university departments/programs.

· Reports to Executive Director of the library.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

· Strong interpersonal and public communication skills


Ability to learn and apply new skills as needed. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with information resources in a variety of formats. Demonstrated evidence of initiative and resourcefulness and proven ability to work collaboratively and independently. Knowledge of library information systems and electronic resources.


Qualifications Required:

· ALA Accredited Master’s Degree.

· Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of collection management.

· Knowledge of current collection development issues and trends at academic and research libraries, including an understanding of emerging information technology and its applications for collection development.

· Demonstrated knowledge of acquisitions procedures, particularly databases and other electronic resources.

· Experience with library information management system(s).

· Experience with receiving and processing periodical literature.

· Experience with cost analysis of electronic resources.

· Evidence of relevant experience in negotiating license agreements and e-resource acquisitions and management.

Qualifications Preferred:

Minimum one year supervisory experience. Experience working in academic libraries. Practical experience with Ex Libris Alma technology platform.
