Description

Responsible for assisting all diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular radiological procedures in a timely manner. Performs procedures according to physicians orders in the patients chart or per prescription on outpatients. As a member of the care team, the CVT is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care. In addition, the CVT must be able and willing to cross-train into other appropriate modalities. Through following hospital policy/procedure is responsible for quality control, quality improvement and equipment maintenance.

 

Primary Duties

Patient Care:

  1. Performs Cardiovascular Technologist procedures in a timely manner; documents required information and communicates to primary physician and direct care staff pertinent information.
  2. Coordinates and assists the care of patients assigned in collaboration with physicians, nurses and allied health staff.
  3. Evaluates patient condition to adequately perform procedure.
  4. Informs and explains procedure to be performed to patient and what is expected in terms of his/her cooperation.
  5. Provides comprehensive direct patient care and assures a safe and comforting environment.
  6. Consults with other staff as necessary to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  7. Ensures the necessary clinical equipment and supplies are available and are safely utilized.
  8. Possesses the knowledge of growth and development of patients across the life span (i.e., neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric).
  9. Performs Point of Care procedures in a timely manner according to established policy and procedure. Documents required information and complies with all Point of Care quality control standards.

Staff/Unit Responsibilities:

  1. Maintains current license and registration.
  2. Uses resources in an efficient and cost effective manner.

  4. Participates in developing other staff and affiliating students.
  5. Maintains and develops own professional competencies.
  6. Maintains and promotes a team spirit through active cooperation and collaboration.
  7. Assists in interdepartmental service coordination.

  9. Assumes a role in the maintenance of the patient-focused care delivery system.
  10. Assists in the coordination of unit operations.
  11. Assists in all aspects of care if the environment, such as dietary, housekeeping, infection control, and supply and equipment management.
  12. Attends 80% of in-services and departmental meetings.
  13. Helps provide staff to other areas of the hospital when needed.

 

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Continuing education in specialty area preferred.
  • Licensure/ Certification: Current Arkansas Department of Health Radiologic Technologist license and current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) certification required. Registered Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT) certification preferred. BLS and ACLS certification required prior to completion of orientation.   Certification is to be renewed by recommended renewal date on certification card.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience as a CVT preferred.  Cath Lab experience strongly preferred. 
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Performs at a proficient level, all tasks within the specialty area. Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Able to perform the necessary functions on the facilitys computer system.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to interact and communicate in English with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and families in an effective manner, exhibiting tact, enthusiasm and patience. Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Essential Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Able to lift/push/pull patients to transport and/or reposition. Able to lift and carry equipment and supplies of 25 pounds or more. Works under stressful conditions, irregular hours, exposure to communicable diseases and potentially contaminated body fluids and bio-hazardous materials.
  • Essential Cognitive Abilities: Requires good communication and organizational skills. Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Requires working with frequent interruptions. Able to comprehend and interpret complex clinical subject matter related to area of expertise.
  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Requires corrected hearing and vision within a normal range and the ability to distinguish color.
  • Exposure to Hazards: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and potentially contaminated body fluids and hazardous materials. OSHA risk factor: Category I. Potential risk of physical injury attributed to moving machinery and supplies.
  • Age-Specific Criteria: Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/services to the age of the patients served in the hospital facility. Must also possess the ability to assess data and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to their specific needs.
  • Other: Understands the mission and vision of the hospital. Operates within the concept of patient focused care. Evolves into an effective team member. Must adhere to dress code; good grooming and personal hygiene habits; and strict adherence to attendance policies. Maintains knowledge of and conforms to hospital policies and procedures.
