The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for providing a broad range of support to all employees ensuring accuracy and timeliness within the HR function. This roles primary responsibility is to provide day-today support to the human resource function, including record-keeping, file maintenance and HRIS entry, employee onboarding and the scheduling of trainings and meetings, benefits administration, planning employee events to include wellness initiatives. They will partner closely with payroll, recruitment and the HR team to ensure process flows are accurate and thorough and will be expected to drive improvements in these areas.


While this role will focus on detailed work, candidates must also be comfortable and enjoy interacting with employees and supporting HRs role in a positive and collaborative culture.


Essential Functions

  • Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; counseling employees and supervisors.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge and enhances job performance by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Oversee and track Training and Development courses for employees
  • Conduct exit interviews to identify reasons and trends for employee termination.
  • Participate in the evaluation, classification and rating of occupations and job positions.
  • Assist in hiring, including developing job descriptions and job advertisements, and screening and interviewing candidates.
  • Maintains employee benefits programs and informs employees of benefits; conducting and assisting with open enrollment benefit meetings: and administration of benefits changes in coordination with carrier and/or broker.
  • Demonstrate skills in consensus-building and mediation in order to constructively address employee conflicts.
  • Guide leaders and employees regarding Company policies, values, HR programs (benefits, pay and salary) administration and interpretation to ensure policies and procedures are handled consistently and in a timely manner.
  • Continuously assess morale, engagement and performance, and recommend appropriate solutions and plans to achieve desired outcomes. Provide follow-up measures to ensure desired outcomes were attained.
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records.
  • Manage actions and proceedings brought against EMS arising in connection with employment, benefits and workers compensation issues, including preparation of responses to EEOC charges and management of outside counsel.
  • Maintain all personnel files, I-9 records, drug and alcohol screening and background investigation results, and ensure compliance with all laws and regulations and demonstrates best practices in regard to personnel information management.
  • Maintains a pay plan by conducting periodic pay surveys; recommending, planning, and implementing pay structure revisions.
  • Administer compensation, benefits and performance management systems, and safety and recreation programs. Maintains the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
  • Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties, wages, opportunities for promotion and employee benefits.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation.
  • Organize and work independently on multiple assigned tasks/projects and complete assignments within specified deadlines.
  • Maintain records and compile statistical reports concerning personnel-related data such as hires, terminations, promotions and transfers.
  • Maintains management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to the appropriate information security policies based on the sensitivity of company data and report any security related issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Candidates must be comfortable working in a change-oriented environment and have an interest in generalist level support across all aspects of HR.

  • Proven capability to make sound judgments and take the initiative to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and make decisions/choices within the functional area of responsibility with minimal direct supervision.



  • 3-5 years of experience in a Human Resources setting, including familiarity with and experience in recruitment, training and development, employee relations, and employee communications.
  • Experience with compensation and benefits administration is a plus.
  • PHR or SPHR certified.
  • Working knowledge of basic HR laws and applications; and a strong grasp of federal & state employment laws.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and an HR Information System.
