Job Description

  • The Financial Aid Counselor maintains student files and is responsible for all aspects of awarding. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, processing applications, analysis of award eligibility, file verification, and coordination of aid from various sources including the institution, state and federal governments, and outside sources according to federal, state, and institutional guidelines. The Counselor is also responsible to certify federal and alternative loans, including the coordination of federal loan counseling requirements, and will communicate with students regarding all aspects of Financial Aid. 
  • Counsels and advises students and parents regarding financial aid eligibility.
  • Collects and analyzes financial data on students to determine aid eligibility and processes awards within federal, state and institutional guidelines.
  • Responds to requests from students and/or parents in person or in writing regarding financial aid programs and eligibility.
  • Assists in the preparation and presentation of information regarding federal financial aid, scholarships, employment and grants for campus groups, students and parents.
  • Analyzes reports and verifies eligibility of students to receive financial aid.
  • Interacts with students, staff, lenders and, federal and state governments to resolve issues.
  • Evaluates and documents unusual/mitigating circumstances
  • Become familiar with the Judson culture
  • Support the mission and goals of the University and respective department
  • Other duties as assigned

Primary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must be dedicated to quality customer service and able to work as part of a team
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills to accurately convey information
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, high attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multifaceted work environment
  • Two years of experience working with student services in a higher education setting or in a related industry is desired although not required
  • Computer competency in MS Office is required (Word, Excel); experience with Jenzabar programs is desired although not required
  • Previous experience with term or non-term financial aid awarding is a plus
  • Advanced excel experience is recommended but not required
