Position Summary:

This position is part of Fortune’s “Jails to Jobs” (J2J) program, an initiative to service persons in the community with touchpoints within Rikers Island Correctional Facility. Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, Jails to Jobs, the Program Assistant will support Fortune Society's programs through evaluation of data related to service delivery and outcomes, working with J2J staff to assist with data collection points and supporting with day-to-day administrative tasks in order to monitor client activities, contract performance and program milestones.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directly, as well as through other relevant staff and interns, engage in process documentation, staff training, and regular quality assurance monitoring to insure proper database entries in both agency and funder databases;
  • Collaborate with J2J program staff to coordinate the best possible service plans for program participants;
  • Assist in the completion of strong working resumes for each J2J participant and ensure the candidate’s ability to speak to their resume prior to their interview(s);
  • Maintain regular phone, email, and in-person communication with clients in account base; document all pertinent discussions, milestones, events, and incidents in real-time in the Fortune’s database system(s);
  • Partner with the Program Manager of Jails to Jobs and team to meet the customized workshop need of program participants to ensure their mastery in skills that would deem them job-ready;
  • Support J2J program staff with obtaining post-placement retention updates, in accord with contract mandates, propound lists of clients in need of verification, and coordinate unit access of third party verification systems;
  • Assist with community outreach events and resource fairs as needed;
  • Provide additional administrative support to J2J staff as they facilitate groups and conduct trainings, including conducting outreach calls as needed;
  • Maintain both physical and digital client files;
  • Manage calendars for program staff, as needed;
  • Provide timely data entry and case note management for internal and external databases as needed;
  • Attend and participate in J2J team meetings, as well as other unit meetings as necessary, taking minutes for other team members as needed; and
  • Provide additional program and administrative support to the unit as necessary.



  • Must have at least a High School Diploma; Associate’s Degree preferred;
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of  MS Office, including Excel (at least an intermediate level);
  • Must be able to navigate SharePoint;
  • A minimum of two years relevant work experience, preferably in a nonprofit social service setting;
  • Must be detail-oriented with superior administrative skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with exceptional people skills;
  • Appreciation of Fortune’s work in serving people who have been incarcerated and those who are at risk; and

Travel Requirements Requires travel throughout the 5 boroughs to reach out to current and potential new employment partners; depending on clearance ability, may require travel to Rikers Island Correctional Facility.
