POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Assistant Aquatics Director, under the direction of the Director of Aquatics, and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Merrimack Valley YMCA, the Assistant Aquatics Director is responsible for all programs, activities and daily operation of the Aquatics Department. The Assistant Aquatics Director oversees aquatic staff including lifeguards and instructors; administers a comprehensive staff development program; maintains a safe aquatic environment; develops and implements programs; and participates as a member of the leadership staff team. The Assistant Aquatics Director will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA. This is a Full Time, Hourly position.
- Directs and supervises aquatic activities to meet YMCA objectives
- Retain a higher and more consistent level of responsibility in the general job functions of a Head Lifeguard and Head Swim Instructor including flexible coverage, direct service and maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Develops strategies to motivate and engage staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete and that staff execute their tasks competently.
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool/ pool chemistry and balance checks.
- Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Conducts lifeguard, First Aid and CPR trainings on a monthly basis or achieves certifications to teach these classes within 6 months of hire.
- Teaches group swim classes and private swim lessons. Minimum 5 hours of private lessons a week as well as 10 hours of teaching group lessons a week.
- Conduct onboarding of new staff.
- Create staff training and monthly in-service curriculum. Plans and conducts monthly lifeguard and swim instructor in service trainings. Lead in service training to meet both quality and safety standards.
- Conduct weekly drills at least 2 times a week.
- Responsible for shift coverage and managing call outs on days Aquatics Director is off.
- Conduct all daily, weekly, and monthly check systems including but not limited to, quick checks, long readings, 1st aid checks, scanning, and any other duties/checks as assigned.
Financial Development:
- Provides leadership and support of Annual Campaign that results in achievement of our annual fund-raising goal.
- Attend and assist with association special event fundraising efforts.
- Assistant Director in tracking and managing staff hours to remain consistent with budget.

- Delivering innovative, high-quality programming to measurably increase member and participant satisfaction and ensure the MV YMCA is the organization of choice for aquatics.
Other Duties:
- Participate in branch, association, and community events.
- This position is responsible for: a measurable increase in revenue; increased and varied member and community participant opportunities; management of and a reduction in waitlists; assisting with the annual campaign; assisting with reaching membership goals; participating in community engagement activities; and attending branch, association, and community events, to further the needs of the Association.
