The Payroll/Accounts Payable Technician will provide accounting support to major financial accounting areas, including the accounts payable desk, general ledger accounting, account reconciliation and semi-monthly payroll processing. They serve as the primary contact for all accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Process daily cash receipts & electronic check deposits
• Reconcile all bank deposits and record journal entries into the accounting software
• Maintains all accounts payable reports, new vendor account set-ups and accounts payable files
• Maintains accurate coding to the general ledger for all cost components to vendor invoices
• Process A/P Aging Reports & obtain approval for vendor payments to issued
• Process wage garnishment & 403(B) contribution payments
• Prepares analysis of vendor accounts, as required
• Manage and process all 1099 transactions annually
• Create adjusting entries for Workers Compensation premiums & health benefit premiums
• Assist in month end tasks (bank reconciliations and various adjusting entries)
• Process Certificate of Insurance & Additional Insured requests
• Review and approve monthly expense reports in Concur SAP platform and reconcile to credit card statement
• Process the semi-monthly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees
• Monitor submissions of approved timesheets in the time & attendance portal
• Ensure valid data transfers to/from the payroll software
• Serve as first point of contact for payroll requests (check requests, inquiries and pay issues)
• Responsible for payroll records maintenance
• Audit payroll register & reconcile the payroll summary reports for each department after each payroll cycle; create payroll journal entries
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion with information related to employees, managers and department operations, without exception
• Process and oversee Cookie Balance collections
• Absorb or perform additional accounting duties as necessary

Skills and Qualifications

• Two years’ experience working in a non-profit accounting environment
• A minimum of two years’ experience with a payroll application such as ADP, Paycom, Paychex
• Competency in using accounting software, e.g. Solomon, Mas90, Avila, or Great Plains
• Knowledge of basic payroll best practices and employment law relating to payroll processing
• Knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies and procedures
• Experience with Microsoft Office (intermediate Excel and Word)
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with high attention to detail and deadline driven
• Ability to work and cooperate as a team member with all levels within the organization
• Excellent attendance and customer service skills

• Have reliable form of transportation, CA driver’s license, a good driving record for past 5 years, and proof of insurance
