Description

General Summary

Under the supervision of the Molecular Pathology Supervisor, the PCR Molecular Technologist has intermediate to advanced level molecular biology knowledge and testing protocols including significant experience in a lab environment utilizing techniques such as conducting PCR assays (Real-time, qPCR, PCR fragment analysis), Next Generation Sequencing, and nucleic acid extraction and quantification. The PCR Tech performs with proficiency and understanding the tests and procedures assigned to the Molecular PCR department.  The position is responsible for accurate reporting of results, quality control, training newer employees, equipment maintenance and all other duties assigned by the supervisor.

This position is a first shift position. 

Essential Functions:

  1.  Sample preparation, including DNA and RNA extractions from liquid and FFPE tissue.
  2. Conduct all PCR assays and Next Generation Sequencing
  3. Complete QA and QC documentation daily
  4. Maintain laboratory equipment including managing logs and periodic maintenance schedules
  5. Provide technical guidance and act as a resource for less experienced lab personnel. 
  6. Assist with training.
  7. Familiarity with intermediate laboratory chemistry including the usage of pH meters, molarity and normality.
  8. Troubleshoot issues and assist with updating laboratory procedures
  9. Perform general lab duties as needed
  10. Assist with inventory management
  11. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. 4+ years’ experience in a molecular biology laboratory.  Preferably in a clinical setting.
  2. Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Molecular Biology (MB) from ASCP or equivalent agency preferred
  3. If not certified, must be certified within 12 months of hire
  4. Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, etc)

  1. Be able to lift 10+ lbs.
  2. Be able to stand for over 5 hours at a time
