The System Support Technician has the primary responsibility of assisting end users across the organization, resolve their computer problems, field incoming help tickets, install software and peripherals, and troubleshoot defective hardware.

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Field incoming help requests via telephone and e-mail in a courteous manner
  • Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair computer equipment and peripherals
  • Coordinate with external service providers for hardware repairs
  • Learn mission-critical software applications used and supported by LNP
  • Prioritize and schedule problem resolution. Escalate problems (when required) to the appropriately experienced technician
  • Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting
  • File and catalog software licenses
  • Assist in delivery and support of software applications
  • Install and test networking cable
  • Test fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved and perform post-resolution follow-ups
  • Very strong customer service orientation and attention to detail
  • May be needed to be onsite at off-hours during emergency situations
  • Night System Support Technicians are required to assist the production staff that includes, but is not limited to, paginating and outputting the newspaper
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Excellent written, listening and interpersonal skills with a focus on rapport-building and questioning skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Ability to conduct research into application development issues and products
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor/Associates degree in computer systems or comparable work experience
  • Extensive experience with core software applications
  • Knowledge of database design and file management techniques
  • Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems
  • Knowledge of network hardware, protocols, and standards
  • Proficiency in Windows and Macintosh
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
