The Opportunity.

Visitor Services Associates work to further the mission of The Trustees and preserve our special place forever by providing superior service during each daily visit, program, and event. The opportunity to work on any day at the Visitor Station, Front Desk, Café, or in Security adds a refreshing mix to the weekly schedule. In addition to these basic but crucial roles, associates assist with a variety of activities such as public programs and special events. This dynamic position constantly presents new opportunities to serve our visitors including but not limited to the following:


  • Accurately and efficiently conduct a variety of sales 
  • Join training sessions and tours to offer visitors insight on different exhibitions  
  • Generate new memberships through visitor engagement  
  • Address every concern as a priority and see it through to resolution 
  • Oversee the execution of events and programming while maintaining museum security and the overall visitor experience.  


In This Role You Will:

Visitor Station  

  • Efficiently facilitate initial admission sales or check-in
  • Offer relevant information to orient visitors to the property and set expectations for their visit. This may include but is not limited to the following: 
    • Directions and basic layout of the property 
    • Daily offerings such as programming and tours  
    • Any special notices that may impact the visitor experience 
  • Communicate arrival of deliveries, appointments, etc to the appropriate staff members


Front Desk  

  • Provide visitors with a warm welcome and offer guidance as needed including but not limited to: 
    • Overview of museum and exhibition layout 
    • Available tools and activities for families  
    • Special daily offerings such as programming and tours  
  • Facilitate group admission payment and membership purchases  
  • Manage external calls to the museum in a professional manner
    • Forward calls as needed to appropriate staff members  
  • Address visitor questions directly whenever possible 
    • Contact the person who can help when not possible  



  • Support the café manager with various food service operations including but not limited to: 
    • Maintaining a superior cleanliness standard 
    • Sale of Café merchandise and prepared food
    • Production of various coffee and tea beverages  
    • Basic food preparation  



  • Oversee guest interactions with exhibitions in the sculpture park and museum  
    • Provide a warm welcome to guests entering gallery spaces  
    • Ensure museum policies are followed and respectfully address errant behavior
  • Create a welcoming environment for guests and offer guidance relating to exhibitions when invited to do so 
  • Assist with various activities throughout the museum campus as needed including but not limited to the following:  
    • Workshops  
    • Tours
    • Events
    • Deliveries 




  • Coordinate appropriate added security measures with Curatorial staff in relation to heightened risk factors such as:
    • Dancing
    • Crowd size
    • Alcohol
  • Initial setup of event including but not limited to:
    • Additional stanchions and/or signage
    • Setting tables and chairs
    • Coordinating event staff and guest arrival times
  • Maintaining deCordova security, cleanliness, and customer service standards throughout the duration of events
  • Assist with various tasks to ensure a smooth event at the discretion of the event manager
  • Oversee catering operations and ensure that all museum spaces have been properly reset and ready for the public
    • Inform caterers of the location of cleaning supplies
    • Ensure that all appliances have been cleaned and powered off
    • Confirm that all furniture has been properly stored in the rightful place
    • Preform a complete evening check of galleries and building access points



Visitor Services Staff are expected to be onsite and ready to begin their tasks no later than the time listed on their schedule. Tardiness will lead to disciplinary action. All staff members are expected to work weekends and evenings. Staff must be dismissed by their manager before exiting from a shift.

  • Keep public-facing workstations neat and stocked with relevant materials 
  • Attend regular training sessions and meetings 
  • Monitor e-mail communications for updates on the following: 
    • Policies  
    • Operational procedures  
    • Exhibition installations 
    • Organization-wide updates  
    • Schedules  
  • Provide flexible availability including evenings and weekends as needed 
  • Represent the museum in a professional manner with appropriate attire
    • Uniforms are to be worn with non-denim slacks or an appropriate-length skirt or shorts
    • Trustees Staff ID badges and lanyards are to be worn throughout all shifts
