Childcare Specialist

The Childcare Specialist will be responsible for facilitating innovative and interactive activities with program participants and/or their families. The Childcare Specialist will monitor program activities to ensure that they are consistent with Change Happens policies and procedures and the requirements of the funding sources. The Childcare Specialist will ensure daily activities are performed in a safe environment and in accordance to childcare regulations. This position will work under the general leadership and report directly to the Youth Director or designee. The Childcare Specialist daily schedule will include alternative activities, arts & crafts, recreation activities, transportation assistance to participants, and assisting in outings and field experiences. 

Hours: Normal working hours are Monday-Thursday, 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. and Fridays 2:pm-5 p.m.  (subject to change during summer months)


  • work closely with program staff to provide prevention and intervention services to eligible youth;
  • facilitate activities for the assigned group(s)
  • document participant attendance and progress in program activities - It is expected that monitoring results will show all documentation is accurate and consistent with policies and procedures.
  • compile and submit weekly activity reports on time
  • maintain thorough and complete records of program services and activities
  • recruit, screen, and enroll eligible applicants to receive services
  • administer evaluation instruments, as assigned by Program Coordinator
  • facilitate and coordinate community service projects with youth participants
  • perform other duties or special projects set forth by the department, agency, supervisor, or Executive Director
  • maintain and follow guidelines set by the Department of Family Protective Services under Childcare License for School-Age and Before or After-school Programs

The qualifications for Childcare Specialist are:

  • successful experience working with youth ages 6-18
  • successful experience working with parents/guardians
  • ability to adapt to a dynamic and changing environment
  • strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse community groups
  • excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • must have a valid driver's license
  • must maintain a clean driving record
  • must be able to operate a 15-passenger van
  • successfully complete a background check, drug test, and fingerprint annually
