Position Summary

The Major Gifts Events Intern will provide staff support for planning and executing Major Gifts events such as Leading a Life of Purpose, AAP Leadership Luncheon, First Tuesday, Tocqueville Recognition Reception, and the Ivan Allen Reception. The events intern will also assist with administrative support needed for Tocqueville Society Cabinet and Affinity Group volunteer meetings to including retreats.


  • Attend and assist at First Tuesday Luncheons with operations, set up and break down
  • Provide staff support for planning, administrative preparation at signature events like Leading a Life of Purpose, Tocqueville Recognition Reception, Ivan Allen Circle Reception, and Cabinet/Committee meetings and retreats.
  • Assist major gifts staff with drafting correspondence, updating and maintaining donor database as necessary, help with general administrative office duties
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.


  • Current student pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field
  • Experience in event planning is a plus
  • Proficiency in methods of information acquisition, including use of online & electronic sources and print directories.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently without direct supervision.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong follow-through.
  • Well organized, detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task and adjust to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The United Way of Greater Atlanta (UWGA) internship program is a one semester, paid program designed to give college students an opportunity to complement their formal education with career-related experience.

United Way of Greater Atlanta supports internship programs that provide growth and learning opportunities to students pursuing their undergraduate and graduate degrees.

To qualify as a student intern, students must meet one of the four following enrollment criteria:

  • The student is currently enrolled as a full-time student as defined by the school, organization, or institution.
    • The student must provide proof of enrollment upon hire.
    • Proof of continued enrollment must be provided each semester during the regular school year.
  • The student has been accepted into an educational institution which meets the above requirement, when between institutions (e.g., from high school to college).
